Jenna's POV
My world feels as if it's moving in slow motion.
My mothers screams and sobs are faint in the background as I watch the firefighters try to tame the fire that's rapidly destroying my childhood home.
I look up to my bedroom window and see flames devouring the already burnt wood that surrounds the frame. The glass has already burst out due to the extreme heat and I can't help but stare in disbelief.. Frozen.
My mom slams the car door as runs over to talk to one of the neighbours about what happened.
Our across the road neighbour Suzy hugs my mom as she sobs into her neck.
As for me. I am frozen in the car.
I finally let out a breath I was unaware I was holding and I pull out my phone.
I call Harry and tell him what's happening and in no time him and Anne find my mother and Anne begins comforting her new friend.
I watch as Harry frantically look around trying to find he before spotting me in my car.
He rushes over and swings open the passenger door.
"Jenna are you ok" he asks and I stay frozen staring at what's left of my house.
"Jenna!" He raises his voice to get my attention.
I turn to him and step out of the car before reaching on my tippy toes and wrapping my arms around his neck. I let it all out and cry into his chest, he leans down and hugs me tighter as I ball, he rubs my back in an attempt to comfort me and honestly it feels so good to be in his arms at a time like this.
When I finally think I'm ready to I pull away from Harry's grip and wipe my tears. My makeup is probably all over my face right now but I couldn't care less.
We walked over to our mothers his hand on the small of my back.
Anne hugged me tightly "I'm so sorry this happened sweetheart, they aren't sure how it started" she said before releasing me from her hug.
"You guys are welcomed to stay with us as long as you need" Anne offers.
"No, we will just stay in a hotel, thank you so much for the offer though hun" my mom says wiping her tears.
"Christina, I don't think you realize how much damage the house has gotten, the firefighters said the house is totalled sweety, I can't have you spending more money on hotels while you have to deal with everything else, please stay with us! We have two spare bedrooms, it's nothing" said Anne.
"Thank you" my mom said bursting into another cry and hugging Anne.
My mom talked to a member of the town hall about where they will go from here and they will set up an appointment with her bank about options like repairs and house hunting.
We followed behind Harry's car to the nearest Walmart to grab a few necessary things like clothes and toothbrushes before driving to Harry's house.
"It's so kind of you to have us" my mom says and Anne assures her it is no problem at all and not to thank her again.
"There's a room upstairs next to mine for Anne, and there's one down that hallway there" she points down the hall to the upper right "next to Harry's for Jenna"
I can tell my mom is uncomfortable with my room being so close to Harry's but she shouldn't be we are just friends.
Harry helped me grab blankets and pillows for my room and brought in a pair of his pyjama pants and one of his shirts for me to wear.
"I know they'll be kind of big on you but it's all I have" he says taking a seat on my new bed.
"Thank you" I say laying back on my bed and he does the same.
We stare at the ceiling for a while before Harry breaks the silence.
"Are you ok" he asks turning on his side.
"I.. I don't know, it doesn't feel like it actually happened. That my childhood home is gone."
I paused.
"Did you how that when I was 3 I knocked over a bookshelf and it fell and dented my wall in the living room" I said.
"How'd you manage that" Harry asked with a laugh.
"I don't remember but my parents had rushed in freaking out to find me, clueless as to why they were mad."
"When I was 4 I decided I wanted to 'cook like mama' and I destroyed the kitchen. My parents spent the next year finding jelly beans and chocolate chips in random parts of the house."
"And when I was 7 I got my head stuck in the stair railing and my dad had to put Vaseline on the bars and pull me until I got loose."
"When I was 10 I fell out of the big tree in the back and broke my ankle, the same year the ceiling fan broke and hit me in the head."
Harry laughed some more "it was an awkward and unlucky age" I said.
"At age 13 me and Tara slid down the stairs in a laundry basket and she knocked over my moms vase and my mom was pissed!"
"I snuck out through my window a couple times when I was with Calum and I felt so rebellious and badass and I even learned how you could prop the window open a bit if you pushed it a certain way"
"We always had a wall where we would mark my height every six months"
"I learned how to ride a bike and crashed into my garage door when I couldn't figure out how to stop, I built snowmen every winter in the yard, and one year me and Tara built a massive snow fort only to have it knocked down by some teenagers the next day, I grew a garden in the back and cried in my room too many times. I had so many sleepovers with Tara and even Rachel and our group when we were close. That house contains so much and now it's been burnt to nothingness within a couple of hours." I cried and Harry reached across and moved the hair out of my face.
"I know it's hard Jenna and that house was where you experienced so many things, but the memories are still there. Just because this happened doesn't mean you've been deprived of the experiences you've already encountered, it just means you will get to make more memories in a newly built house and even here."
Harry was right.
"I'll leave you to get into your pyjamas and go to bed, I'm in the room next door if you need anything at all." Harry says leaning in my doorway.
"Thank you, goodnight"
"Goodnight" he says before giving me a smile and closing the door.
