After Dark

" So why exactly are we here Malfoy ? " I asked puzzled. He just threw a box at me. Catching it alarmed, I glared at Malfoy. " What is it ? " I spat. " A present Granger. It won't kill you. It's just a note.Open it, there's nothing bad in it. " He mocked. Cautiously I opened the box, there inside the box was a small snake. Small as a grass snake but it was jet black. Dropping the box in fear and shock. I turned to Malfoy. " What kind of sick joke is this ? " I raged. He threw his arms up in surrender, " It wasn't from me, it was from your mother. I always wished I had my own, It's a special snake it is devoted to you only. It'll do nothing but protect you Granger, all it asks is that you return the favour. Give it food,warmth. Love." 

Looking down at the snake, I shuddered. The thing looked venomous. " It'll grow much bigger Granger, bigger than Nagini" He whispered in awe staring at the baby snake. Too focused on thinking about how handsome Malfoy looked under the moonlight, I didn't even realise that the snake had crawled up my arm and curled up into my hand. 

" Night Malfoy" I whispered. Cradling the snake in my hands I walked back into the common room. 

" Did you kiss !? " Lavender called out, many first years joined in. Curious to know about this hated Draco Malfoy. " No we went to Mcgonagall like he said" I replied. Walking over to the centre of the room, I called out. " Harry, Ron, Gin " They instantly got up out of their seats and we walked back out the common room. " C'mon we can go to the ROR" Harry said jumping onto the first set of stairs. Ginny having never been there asked " ROR ? " A puzzled look upon her face. " Room of Requirement Gin" I spoke. In unison the rest of us jumped onto the staircase. On the way to the ROR I began to softly stroke the snake hidden up my sleeve. I don't know how but I just knew that she liked it. Cara liked it. I called her Kaa for short, The Jungle book's snake. 

Entering the ROR, I began to tell them all about my ordeal with Malfoy and that the lestranges were my parents. Are my parents. Ron began to seethe in his seat shaking, like a kettle threatening to boil over. 

" But we were supposed to get married ! " Ron screamed in pain, heartbreak. Tears welled in my eyes. " He'll kill my mom if I don't I'm sorry Ron" I cried. " You'll still be our friend, when you're married to him right ? " Ron whispered his voice breaking. 

A sob caught in my throat. " Of course " I wailed, running over to them hugging them all. All of the sudden Ron punched my arm in a friendly manner. Feigning pain I stumbled backwards. Cara didn't know that though. Shooting out my sleeve she circled Ron her fangs bared. " No Cara. No ! He's my friend ! " I shouted.  Instantly she recoiled and came back  to me. Picking her up gently I placed her back in her comfy spot. " Yeah that was the present the Lestranges got. Devoted it's life to protect me. " I whispered fear still evident in my voice. " That's so cool ! " Ron laughed a smile back on his face. " But scary" He made a face, pretending to run from Cara. 

We all arrived back in the common room laughing, letting Cara down to explore, I dived for the sofa and hogged it all. Laughing at Ron's expression I invited him to sit down and sat on his lap. My face rested on his shoulder. A growl was heard and the potrait slammed shut. Turning our head to the door quickly we saw no one. " Miss who was that ? " I asked the fat lady. The portrait replied " Blonde haired slytherin boy dear. Malfoy was it ? " She mumbled. 

Oh crap...

Excusing myself to the girl's dormitory I summoned Cara to follow and got into bed. Exhausted already. Opening one of my draws I made a little bed in there for Cara, placing her inside I gave her one last stroke before going to sleep.
