'Tyler'

I swore, sliding my gun out.  The gun wouldn't be able to do anything if it were Sirens , but it still gave me a small sense of comfort to know I wasn't completely unarmed.  I stood still, not knowing where they were hiding.

'Tyler'

I surveyed the area warily. Nothing. This was not good. I needed to get out of the field. The lights started to blink out and I realized with a sinking feeling that I couldn't get out of the situation unless I flickerd.

'Tyler'

It was slowly closing in and I had no idea where it was. I had to make a descision.  I bit my lip, weighing my choice.

I could flickr and risk the chance of dying later or I could stand here and wait to be caught and die anyway.

so many options I thought sarcastically. The sharp whistling that usually was associated with Sirens grew closer and I cringed.  To many, it was a mother's lullaby as she sang to her child, the sound of a bird chirping happily from afar.  The few who could reconize its meaning thought it cruel. To feel safe right before you last breath was barbaric.

I've always wondered how they made the sound if they were pretty much brain dead, but thought it best not to stick around and ask questions.  I held my pistol in front of me, backing up slowly.

Time to go

Being graceful was not a skill of mine, I was rather clumsy. My father used to joke that I had inherited it from my mother.

Now or never I thought, reluctantly loading my pistol. I took a deep breath, aiming the pistol and pulled the trigger. There was a sickening crunch! as the bullet made the target and I used the distraction to run. it would buy me some time, the difference between life and death.

A sudden shriek pierced the air behind me, followed closely by a sharp gunshot and I stumbled along the uneven ground.

What the hell?

There shouldn't be anyone else around here. I didn't stop to mull it over, glancing back occasionally.  I ran fast, heart beating. I could see the clearing ahead, my safehouse. I was almost there when a high pitched scream sounded through the air, stopping me in my tracks.  I winced, knowing that despite my instincts screaming at me to keep running, I was going to make a stupid decision.

'Curiousity killed the cat,' I muttered under my breath as I turned around.  I wasn't heartless and I wasn't going to run if there was the chance that another human was around.  I unsheathed my small daggar and headed in the direction of the scream.
