Song of the chapter: Sweetie little jean by Cage the Elephant

Ashley's pov:

I still remember the day before I had left her, a month before she got on the plane. We sat in Haley's room. Nothing in it except the wall of posters she had grown out of and the bright pink paint from when she was younger. A cluster of boybands and rock bands covering the now faded walls. Those posters are still up, they couldn't find anything else to do with the room and now they only go in there when they have to.

Sometimes I still think of the night before our freshman year homecoming.
We sat on her floor blasting Green Day while she painted my toes the exact same color as hers. She did something stupid, probably singing terribly. She always wanted to be a singer but she wasn't good at it, at least that's what she told everyone, so she would
mockingly sing all the time making me burst into laughter. She snorted which made us all laugh harder and she knocked over the nail polish causing a huge red spot on her carpet that stayed there until I had walked out with a hug and a 'see you soon'. The next time I saw that spot I could barely see it through the tears blurring my vision.

Back to the night before I left, I remember how we talked about getting out. She wanted to leave so bad but she had barely started second semester of senior year. We had the same dream of leaving this old tedious town but mine was finally coming true. Haley had to watch me leave and although hers was coming up quick, only a month left, she still complained. I didn't blame her though. We had been planning this for a while, it was so close but so far away.

Even when we were younger we would play with dolls putting them in our dream places whether it was in Los Angeles where the sun was radiant and beaches beautiful. Or we would imagine them exploring Australia, getting into crazy trouble that would always get resolved in the end.

Our families could never perceive our dream. Too crazy for our parents who lived such a monotonous life since they were younger. We wanted to explore the world, there was so much to do... so much to see. The thought of having our whole life ahead of us was golden. We could do so much with it and that's what we planned to do, live it up to its full potential.

In the end, I don't think we got to... there seemed to be something stopping us i guess.
