Chapter 27: Truth
Xander's POV
I just stared at him, not knowing what to say.
I shouldn't have said yes, to being his girlfriend. Even if it felt good, but now this is going to be the shortest relationship i've ever been in. Shorter than a one night stand. I knew better too, but its like I was saying 'no' inside my head and yet my mouth said 'yes'. I knew this would come back and bite me in the ass and it did I just thought i'd get a small break. Obliviously not.
"Xander!" Ryder says, firmly. He steps closer and I step back until I hit a wall. Oh come on.
"I...uh-its...no-I...no-...one..uh-uh...important," Was my response. Intelligent, I know.
Ryder steps closer, to where we were about an inch or two away from each other. It started to become extremely hot, and my breathing was short and quick breaths, my palms were sweaty, and tears started to blur my vision.
"Ryder," I choked out, looking him straight in eye. Some how able to compose myself, "Do you trust me?"
He stares at me, his face blank, his piercing blue eyes were dull, his face was hard, he had bags under his eyes from no sleep, he wore black sweatpants and a navy blue sweatshirt.
"Be honest," I quickly add in before he could say anything.
His face softens a little and sighs, "No, I do not trust you,"
It hurt that he didn't trust me, but I don't blame him. "Okay, well, I think I should just go," I whisper, but he put his hand right by my head, trapping me.
"No, Xander. I want to trust you, and all you have to do is tell me who gave you that bruise and stay here with me," He explains.
I gulp, I wasn't scared of him no, but I was scared of seeing his reaction. I wanted to keep this from him, especially now, because were together. He'd flip.
"Well....Uh-its...just that...s-she l-left....me and...l-lyle....and knew. K-knew....wh-what happ-happens. Yet- uh...it still...ha-ha-happens. A-A-and...br-brother....de-de-dead....cause...o-of....me" I was stuttering like crazy, which I haven't done since 8th grade. I was freaking out, tears were spilling down my face and I closed my eyes waiting for a contact somewhere, for stuttering.
"Xander," Ryder said softy. My eyes were still closed and my hands were clenched into fist ready to try and get a swing in. "Xander," I then felt something on my cheek and instantly flinched away. I opened my eyes to see Ryder, hurt and confusion was written all over his face. Guilt filled me and so did anger.
"Why do you want me Ryder?" I question. "I'm a mess, i'm poor, I built my own ride, I have two jobs, i've never slept in ever since I was six. I fight for cash. Why do you want me so much? I don't get, Ryder. I don't f***king get it!" I was angry, but I didn't scream or yell, my voice was just firm.
Ryder kept his expression, blank, "Is this one sided?"
"No its not, but i'm asking why do you have feelings for me?"
A glimpse of anger flashed through his eyes. His hands cupped my face and he looked me dead in the eye and said,"I don't care if your messed up or if you have a bad past, or if your poor, whatever that doesn't matter to me. What matters to me is you, I want to make sure your safe and that your happy. I want this to work, so please don't lie to me, okay?" Hope in his eyes as he ask me.
I put my hand up against his cheek, he leans into my touch and closes his eyes. I lean in and our lips touch. Its a soft kiss, but it answer his question. He immediately kisses me back, a little more aggressive, but probably the softest kiss i've ever had.
