The Arcbeast descended from the heavens with the unhurried grandeur of something that had never once needed to prove its own magnificence. Its massive wings beat slow and steady, and with each pass they swept across the city sprawling below — and the young heroes, gripping the edges of the palanquin and staring down with wide eyes, saw it for the first time: the elven capital.

It was ancient and alive in the same breath. Streets carved from living root and pale stone wound between structures that had grown as much as they had been built — towers wrapped in flowering vines, archways of woven branch, gardens that existed at every level of every building, as though the elves had decided that the city and the forest were not separate things. And threading through all of it, everywhere at once: technology. Not the smoke-and-iron technology of the human world, but something that moved with nature rather than against it — soft lights in configurations no flame could hold, mechanisms that breathed like organisms, architecture that seemed aware of its own environment.

Familiar yet completely foreign. Ancient yet unmistakably alive. Nothing the heroes had imagined had looked quite like this.

As the Arcbeast drew closer to the immense tree at the center of it all, it slowed — inch by inch, with the measured patience of a creature that knew exactly where it was going — before its great talons met the earth of the grand palace courtyard with a sound that resonated through the stone. They had arrived.

The moment they descended from the Arcbeast, the full weight of where they were landed on the heroes at once.

The royal army of the elven realm stood in formation throughout the courtyard — soldiers in armor that was both elegant and deeply unsettling to look at, the craftsmanship so precise and the bearing so absolute that the word "guard" felt insufficient for what they were. Beyond them, the assembled great noble houses of the elven realm stood in their own rows, draped in clothing of a richness that communicated status without needing to announce it — fabrics of colors the heroes didn't have names for, cuts that followed elven tradition in ways that were completely new to foreign eyes.

The heroes descended first. Then, last of all, the Emperor and Empress stepped down from the Arcbeast — and the moment their feet touched the courtyard stone, every head bowed and every knee met the ground in a single unbroken motion, as fluid and instinctive as breathing.

"Vaelor ryn, Kaelorin Valandor. Sera en vaelor."

"Welcome home, Their Majesties of House Valandor. We receive you with honor."

The words rose from knights and nobles together — one voice from many throats — as the Emperor and Empress moved through the courtyard with the calm of those who have always known what they are, the young human heroes falling into step behind them with considerably less calm than their hosts.

None of them understood a single word. Almost instinctively, all six turned toward Miss Faelwen at once — and she noticed, a quiet, private smile crossing her face at how naturally they looked to her for guidance without having to think about it.

"For a rough translation," she said, keeping her voice low. "They're saying: 'Welcome home, Their Majesties of House Valandor. We receive you with honor.' That's our elven language — Elarith. You'll be hearing a great deal of it from here on."

Xavier, Jason, Misaki, Jupiter, and Elowen's faces lit up with the particular kind of excitement that comes from hearing something completely foreign and realizing, suddenly, that it has meaning — that it's a whole world of meaning, and that world is real, and they're standing inside it. Even Caelen, who moved through most experiences with the expression of someone filing them away for later analysis, had gone slightly still. Neither of them had genuinely considered that the elven world would be this dense — this living, this layered, this fully itself. They'd been prepared to be impressed. They hadn't been prepared to be overwhelmed.
