A/N One of my favourite chapters coming up :) things begin heating up here. Hope you guys enjoy it!!!
Aiden stared at Stephanie, feeling his anger ebb away as she stared back, a look of fear on her face. A feeling regret and guilt washed over him as he realised she was afraid of him and he wanted to kick himself for making her feel that way, for making her fear him. That was until he remembered what he had seen, his brother and her, flirting playfully and his anger rose again.
"I wasn't talking to you." He sneered, as Stephanie took a step back from him.
"Don't talk to her like that." Matt stepped in front of her, and Aiden glared at him. He didn't want to see how his brother protected her. He had long ago decided that he would not welcome her into his heart, wouldn't allow his emotions to stop from doing what it took to stay alive but he couldn't stop the jealousy that he felt at the obvious attraction between his brother and Stephanie.
"Aiden, she knows everything. She was just working on how to control it, to seperate it from her emotions." Matt crossed his arms over his chest.
"Is that what you call it?" Aiden sneered coldly. He stepped away from them and began walking back to the house, but paused as a yelp came from Matt behind him. Slowly he turned on the spot, and seeing Matt hold his arm as a horrified look filled Stephanie's face, he smirked. "So, she knows everything, does she?" He called out before carrying on back to the house.
"I am so sorry." Stephanie whispered, as Matt rubbed his arm. He was still soaking wet so when she had reached out and placed a hand on his arm, the normal buzz had felt like a full shot of electricity. She turned at the sound of Aiden's voice, catching the smirk on his face before looking back at Matt.
Matt rubbed his arm, the skin warm and red from where she had touched him, before looking up at her. "It's okay. I should have told you."
She frowned then. "Told me what?"
"Come on," he sighed, not answering her question and nodding in the direction Aiden had gone. Stephanie opened her mouth to pursue the topic but he had already begun walking away. Frowning, she followed him back to the house.
Aiden was standing in the living room, waiting for them, the smirk still on his face as he noted the distance between them. Stephanie had her arms wrapped around herself, and looked from Matt to Aiden.
Matt stared at his brother with annoyance and Aiden gave him a smile in return that was anything but friendly, his steely grey eyes flashing. "So, you told her everything huh? Even the part where you have to kill her if she goes nuclear?" He scoffed as Matt nodded, his face tight.
"Yes, she knows. But it won't come to that, Aiden." Matt's voice was hard. "She can learn to control it, to seperate it. And she knows I'd never hurt her, no matter what."
"Not even our, and her, ancestors could get that right, on both parts. They were married to each other, and they still killed each other." Aiden spat. If there was anyone of them who wanted that to be wrong, it was him. He was the one destined to die, destined to fail no matter what. But he had been taught that the hope Matt had was a false one. "What makes you think you can change that?" He stared at Matt.
Stephanie stepped forward as Matt opened his mouth and held her hand out to stop him. "He can't change it, you're right, Aiden." She met Aiden's gaze, and held it. "Because I will." She strode past him into the kitchen, and returned with a glass of water.
"Neither of you will be put in the position to hurt me," Stephanie put the glass on the pillar of the staircase, turning to face Aiden who was watching her warily. "I can control it, and in time I will learn to seperate my emotions from it."
