It was night, or appeared to be anyway. There was no true concept of time here of course. Time was nothing but a device created by man, to have an understanding of our passing of presence here within our lives. We were always trying to do that, put a logical means to understanding things. How naive we were....or still are even.

A pair of green eyes slowly opened and closed amongst the darkness. They appeared dull, tired even. At first glance one could assume it was because of the lack of light, however the green pigment almost seemed to be grey itself, lifeless.

The room was a mixture of light, it wasn't completely dark and dingy, however there was no main light source. Patches of soft illuminated light would come to life briefly, cascading into once dark crevices only to suddenly vanish back to the darkness they had once come from. Leaving the room momentarily to fall back into its dullness. Then they would slowly drift back to life, repeating the process again. The floor was a dark, deep metallic grey, while the walls and ceiling appeared to be a much lighter metallic colour, like a grey/white, still uncertain within the shadows of night. The metallic surfaces of the interior played with the light, allowing the light passage to glide over its surfaces, spilling across the contents of the room, giving it a soft glow.

The lights seemed to have a pulse in their movements, humming to their own rhythm. Soft blues, whites, yellows came in and out of life. It was continuous, harmonious, mesmerizing.

Green eyes one again flashed their presence within this play of lights. Despite there being a dullness to them, they still stood out. They now starred up at the dark ceiling above, unmoving from the spot they were fixated on. The owner of the green eyes gave out a long deep sigh, the sound escaping from soft pink lips nestled below. They were not large or lushes lips by any means but they were supple and in perfect proportion to the other features surrounding them.

Feminine features became more distinct in the soft glow of the unnatural light. The lights occasional passing, giving shape to the figure lying within the sheets of the bed. It was definitely a young woman, her dark chocolate colored locks lay around her face framing it with its soft wave like formation. Her face held a look of sophistication and wisdom despite its young appearance, features that shouldn't have yet been acquired at such a young age, yet they were there.

Breaking the long stretch of silence the young woman once again let out another sigh, yet this one held a tone of annoyance. Throwing her hands over her face she rub her eyes, messaging the tiredness out of them. She shifted her weight quickly and easily throwing the sheets off her slim figure. Her legs swung with ease over the side of the bed, dropping down to kiss the cool of the metal floor below.

Letting her hands grip the edge of the bed she held her weight with ease deciding on what to do next. She estimated it was very early morning probably around 3am, yet another night of broken restless sleep. She inhaled a breath of acceptance holding it for a few moments, slowly she exhaled releasing the stress and tension of another broken sleepless night go. Her eyes began to focus more intently on her surroundings, clarity slowly creeping back into her somber mind. Her feet now well adjusted to the coolness of the metal below. Still holding her weight on the edge of the bed, she consider what to do now. She knew sleep was not within her grasp tonight, so best to do something that was attainable.

A few more minutes passed before she pushed herself up standing tall within the small confines of her room. The light still soft and humming faintly from surface to surface, she made her way to rear of the room. Reaching the end wall, she placed her hand slightly off center on the middle panel, her warm skin touching the cool metal interior once again. This caused a chain affect, soft mechanical noise churned into life followed by the middle panel slowly sliding upwards, only to disappear below the underside of the top panel.

Staring out of the now present, specialized window she always struggled finding the right words to describe the sight before her. It never ceased to astonish her, filling her with a sense of sublime and awe, she never tired from its beauty. The endless abyss of space lay before her, stars blanketed the darkness some glowing more faintly than others. Taking up majority of the view before her however, was one giant gas planet. It was so gigantic that only a quarter of its rotating form could actually be seen. It emitted a colour of deep purples and blues, the two swirling together on its surface mixing and forming other deep colours, yet still remaining prominent in the ever changing movement. Further from the surface circling the plant in a slightly odd formation, was thousands possibly millions, of small space debris.
The swirling pieces of debris added to the planets rather mystical yet menacing look. Further out from the rotating band of debris were also two small moons which were just visible. They held a stillness to them compared to the ever changing surface of the gas planet. Their standstill bodies weren't beaming their full form, they were being secretive, only eluding the eye to believe the they were a crescent shape, hiding the majority of themselves to endless darkness surrounding them.

Removing her hand from the panel. She starred a little longer, trying to absorb every piece of the sight in front of her. It wasn't often that she had much time to just sit and watch that beauty of space. When she was younger back on earth, she had done it almost every night. It was her little ritual, her time of true quiet in the businesses of life around her. She would climb out onto her roof and lay beneath the expansion of stars drinking in their glory and light. It would send her in a calm meditative state. She had always enjoyed that.

Finally releasing her eyes from the window, she released the memories from her mind that followed with them. She turned around facing the interior of her room. She was of medium height with a slender toned build, the play of illuminated lights dancing across her body showed off her athletic form. Her hair also showed its length, the ends rolling down her back ending just below her shoulders. Changing into a new set of clothes she grabbed a small bag throwing some items into it. Still with only the soft illuminated lights around her she headed to the front of the only now where the only door was present.

She turned taking one last look towards the window before opening the door where light flooded into the room showing all its contents and size before the door was closed again. Leaving the quiet, play of illuminated lights humming once again to their own rhythm within the darkness.

On earth people had often said that space was the final frontier. Despite its infinite size and knowing we would never truly understand its secrets, or its deathly beauty that lay within its endless expansion...there was something alluring about this notion which attracted people to it, despite being aware of the dangerous and risks that awaited. To many the infinite expansion of space and the unknown was or is even to much to absorb or be apart of. Many has chosen to remain on earth continuing their daily routines, beliefs, lives, not giving much other thought to anything else. Yet for her, it had always held a strange sense of belonging, like she was apart of it, it understood her and she understood it. There was an undisclosed level of respect that connect them both. She felt she belonged her, accepted her. To her she was home.
