Once upon a time, in a land filled with hills and trees and rivers, small houses were in the center of it all, a castle up in the distance behind the village.
Away from all the busy streets of the town square and buzzing village was a decently sized home that housed three hedgehogs. Jules, Aleena and Sonic.
Aleena was of purple color, with fluffy bangs and a kind face. Jules was sky blue with matching eyes and Sonic was a deep ocean one with his mother's green eyes. But that's not the only thing he inherited from her. He had a figure of a girl, small waist and curvy hips, but you can rest assured that he can hold his own in a fight (not that he gets into many anyway). It's one of the reasons why he wears dresses. It just makes him feel more comfortable.
"I'll be going, mother!" He called out to Aleena.
"Be careful, Sonic!" She replied back from the kitchen.
The boy smiled and closed the door, a picnic basket in hand. He started walking away from the village and into the forest. If you're wondering where he'd going, you have to promise to keep this a secret, promise?
He's going to a garden he found when he was around eight years old. It happened when his family and him were going out to enjoy the scenery. He's been visiting it ever since.
The garden was hidden behind a waterfall in a meadow, an hour walk from him house. That one hour to him felt like five minutes. He would always look around the fields when he walked to his garden even though he's seen them many a times before. He could always run there and make it in less than one minute, but the feeling of the soft breeze and the sights never seemed to bore him.
The same things went for his garden.
He made it to the water fall, going around it and walking down the echoing path inside. His garden wasn't much, but to him it was a heaven he could escape to.
It was a very small island surrounded by water with roses on top of it. All of them were red. The water that surrounded the small island glistened and reflected onto the flowers and in Sonic's eyes. They sparkled with wonder as he saw a new rose was growing at the top of the very small island. It looked as it was ready to bloom. He leaned forward, staring at the young flower as he waited to see what was going to happen.
"Who are you?" He jumped and stood on his feet, turning to see another boy, a hedgehog around his age, staring at him.
His quils were black as midnight, his clothes looked noble and clean and his eyes were red. As red as rubies; as red as roses.
"What are you doing here?" He would've asked the same thing if he wasn't so tongue tied.
He couldn't move; that was until the other boy started walking towards him.
Quickly, he made his way around the other and fled the water fall. He ran away from the meadow and into the tall fields.
"Wait!" He was startled to a stop, quickly turning around.
He couldn't believe his eyes. The hedgehog from the garden was standing right in front of him, not even flustered or breathing ragged. He kept up with his speed. How?
"You forgot this." He looked down onto the stretched hand in front of him, the picnic basket he took staring right back at him.
He flustered, taking back his belonging with a shaky hand. He turned around when he heard a carriage coming from the distance. With a somewhat disappointed look, he turned to the blue hedgehog. "I'm sorry, but I have to leave. I hope to see you again, though." He left with a little smile.
Sonic got home earlier that day, Aleena looking at him in question. Usually when he'd go out he'd be back before sundown. It was still noon now. "Everything alright, Sonic?" She asked.
"Huh?" He looked up, his eyes gone in a different world. "Yes, I'm fine." He left to his room without saying another word.
He sat on his bed for a while, basket set by him. He hasn't even taken out the contents. The jam would get rotten if he left it in there, so would the bread. So with a sigh, he placed it in his lap and opened the lid. What he didn't expect was a rose wrapped in a handkerchief to be placed inside.
His face got flustered again.
