The day had finally arrived. It had been three months since he proposed, and in less than twelve hours, I'd be the Queen of the Underground. The scent of the tigerlilies wafting in from the courtyard drew me to my balcony.
Better not, I thought. It's bad luck to see the bride before the wedding, and I don't want to risk it with him.
A soft knock upon the door told me it was time to get ready. For some reason, though, my breaths came shakily, and I felt dizzy. How was this happening? This was literally a fairy tale.
"Miss?" called Pippie, a woodsprite. "May I come in?"
"Of course, Pippie. I need your help with something." After many zippers, buttons, pins, and headpieces, Pippie and I were exhausted, but it had only just begun. Elyse came in shortly afterward, followed by my mother. Both promptly burst into tears, exlaiming, "You're so beautiful!" I hadn't even seen myself yet. The little pixie led me to my mirror, and I caught a glimpse of the most powerful, ethereal creature possible. How could that be me? Somehow, though, that glance at myself calmed me, assuring me that he'd be there, that this was not a dream.
"Let's do this."
