Hi everyone. Many apologies for such a long wait. This chapter took me a while. I kept writing erasing and re-writing. I just wasn't sure what I wanted to do or where I wanted this to go. The end is rushed, I know but...just bear with me, Hopefully, the next chapter should explain things a bit more...maybe. In the meantime, Minor torture warning. Other than that...enjoy, I guess.
Jo POV
Riding fast on another stolen horse, I make it to Maggie's manor, a few minutes before I know Will to be reaching here. I slip inside and lock the door. Running to the kitchens, I give the staff the night off. I don't want them to accidentally walk into one of my traps.
Once they are all gone, I move around the darkened house. I lay a simple trip wire at all the doors and windows. The wire sets off the mechanism along the ceiling that shoots the hidden crossbow. Then, I replace the windows in Maggie's room with unbreakable glass and place pillows so it looks like two bodies are sleeping in her bed. Then I place a net under the rug that'll sweep him up once the wire has been tripped. I hide behind the curtain and wait. Soon enough, once darkness has completely fallen, I hear the crossbow go off downstairs and muffled cursing. I grin and cover my mouth with my hand.
Then, I hear the door to the bedroom creak open. Heavy breathing and boots clumping. There is a pause and I pray that he hasn't seen the trap. The floorboards creek as he moves closer to the bed. With a deep breath, the man stabs the pillows. It's only when feathers start flying that he pauses and rips the covers off the bed. He grunts in frustration and moves across the rug, setting off the trap. He curses again.
I finally step out from the curtains. "Hullo Will. Like my set-up?" I sneer at the man hanging from the ceiling.
"Jo..." He gasps, clutching his injured arm. "How...how did you know I was gonna be here?" He asks.
I raise one eyebrow. "I heard you and that nasally one." I wiggle my fingers in front of my nose. "Right before I took Boss. It's time I got answers." I pull my dagger from it's sheath and cut him down, still in the net. I tie his hands and legs together and grin. "Lets go see how he is, shall we?" I pull him up and open the window. I push him out, letting him land in the bushes, just a few scratches to prove it. I follow, landing gracefully on my feet. I lift Will up onto the horse I had waiting and make my way back to the safe house.
I shove Will into the same room with Boss, who seems to have fallen asleep. after setting Will up the same way, Boss is, I walk over and slap his other cheek. "Hi Dad. Be polite and greet our guest, won't you?" I gesture to a glaring Will a few feet away. Boss spits at me. I chuckle and leave the room. Once the door is shut again, I press another button that opens the flood gates, allowing water to bubble up from the grates. I can see Will and Boss starting to struggle as the water reaches their ankles. Once the water is up to their mid calf, I close the gates again. Then I open the mirror so they can see me. "Well Boys, I've heard the electric shock is the best way to get what you want. Shall we test it?" I smile and throw an uncovered wire into the room, leaving enough so I can pull it back. The water sparks once before spreading through the room. A silent scream leaves the men's mouths as the convulse on the metal chairs. I grin and pull the wire back, letting them recover.
I make to throw the wire back after 10 minutes when Boss shouts out. "Wait! Jo, wait! I'll tell you...what do you want to know?" He hangs his head.
I let out a little puff of breath. "Good...I want to know...you knew I would get too close to her. So why send me? You could've sent anyone." I ask, biting my lip.
He nods and looks up at me through blood-shot eyes.
