Toby:
"Where have you been?!" I heard my dad yell from the living room. I set down my school bag,
"I was with a friend."
"I thought I said to not make friends at school...you will get to close to them, and they may find out about me, and then we will have to move sooner then we need too."
"I'm sorry dad," I put my head down, I learned not to argue with him, since he did have a really bad temper. He has hit me a couple of times when I got out of line, but it was never just because he needed a punching bag. My dad was a scary looking man, he was big and strong, and had a very mean look on his face all the time. He did murder 4 men, all federal officers, besides one. That is why he was on the FBIs most wanted list. I sometimes feel like he has guilt building up, he usually takes it out with anger. I am scared he is going to finally break and take it out on someone in my family, I rather is be me then my mom.
"Time for dinner," yelled my mom from the kitchen. I walk into the dining room and my dad is already sitting at the table. He doesn't look like he is in a good mood. My mom sets down the food on the table, and my dad digs in, I wait for him to finish and then gesture to my mom to go next. I finally serve myself dinner, I barely put anything on my plate since I didn't want to be at the table longer, with a higher chance of getting my dad angry. We say grace, even though my dad is clearly going to hell. I know my dad is a bad man, but I can't turn him in because I love him, and I know he will get out of jail sooner or later and I don't need him with that kind of anger towards me.
"So honey, what did you do after school today?" said my mother sweetly. I wonder how she got caught up with my dad, they are complete opposites.
"He was with a friend," my dad scowled.
"Is this true Toby?" I just nodded my head, I can't lie since I already told my dad, I have no idea why I told him."You know your dad doesn't want you to have friends at school, it's for te safety of the family. You don't want your father going to jail, do you?" I shake my head. I should really start lying, I want to continue hanging out with Amy. She is going to think that I don't want to be friends with her anymore because of her mothers death.
"Toby, stop just shaking your head, use your words when speaking to your mother!" yelled my father. I nodded not listening to what my dad said. Then I finally realized what he said, My eyes widened with terror, this isn't going to be good. Next thing I know he is charging at me full force, then I hear my mother scream, "No, Jim! Don't do-" my dad punch me in the face, and the whole room went dark.
