Now on with the story.

Rydel's POV
I stared at the man in front of me, fuming. His words had hit me, like a slap. But maybe I'd have preferred a slap anyway. At least slaps can't crawl under your skin and stay there like bed bugs, while simultaneously breaking your heart.
"Well maybe nothing between us was ever real."
My heart stopped. I questioned if it was even there when I could feel nothing but the hollow emptiness of the vacuum that Ellington left in my heart.
But then as the saying goes, nature abhors a vacuum.
Feelings and emotions rushed through me. I was in inner turmoil as it felt like my heart was never going to reappear.
"Well if that's how you feel then," I said quietly.
Ellington's eyes widened as he just realised what he said. "Delly, w-"
I ran out of the house onto the street. The cold air rushed into my lungs as the hot tears started to sting my eyes. How could I be in the same house as that- that man who I've been happily married to for what? Six years?
Happily married no more, I thought to myself bitterly.
I dialed a number I'd memorized by heart.
"Hey, Rydel, what's up?" My oldest brother's voice called through the line.
I missed him so much.
"Can I crash at your place?"
"Rydel are you okay?" I could feel the concern of his voice. "What happened?"
"I'll tell you later," I said before hanging up. He probably didn't understand from how hard I was sobbing.
I entered my car, trying my best to slow my breath, but I was hysterical. I was bad to the point that my hands would not stop shaking. How was I about to make it to Riker's house?
An idea formed in my head. I looked through the glovebox and found some of Ellington's muscle relaxants. That should do the trick.
I looked around the car for something else to wash it down with. All that was left was the bottle of wine Rocky and Alexa gave us to celebrate our anniversary a few days ago. I forced the memory down by opening the bottle.
Sorry, guys.
I washed the pills down with one swig. When I felt the calming effect of everything, I started the engine. The pain in my chest subsided to a dull throbbing. As I pulled out of the driveway, I started crying again. Why would he say such a thing? Such a mean thing? Surely he must've felt something right?
My thoughts consumed me. They controlled me. Each angry thought was a violent swerve to the next street. I knew the address to Riker's house like the back of my hand.
