does anybody remember that one Disney channel movie that was super real about the stupidity of schools placing more of an emphasis on sports than arts and also challenged other societal norms such as dress code and the cliché of every guy who has a crush on a girl ends up with her. It also had many strong empowering female characters along with a girl who's father was in prison and mother was dead who proved a role model for girls who grew up with relatives in prison. It also showed complex family situations like child favoritism, a young woman dating an older man, a mother abandoning her child and husband, a grandmother raising her grandchild, and a child with immigrant parents. No? just me? ok. but seriously it gets pretty real.
