Losing Control

Chapter 3

I blink back into reality and realize what is actually going on.

Henry's, the guy who has bullied me since seventh grade is my mate. Why is this happening to me of all people? I can't help but feel conflicted. On one side I am fearful of what he is capable of doing to me and all the pain he is caused me in the past. But on the other side I can't help but feel adoration for him. It's the mate bond and I know whatever he has done to me in the past, I can forgive him.

He's my mate.

But the look on his face is telling me he is thinking something entirely different. I open my mouth to say something, anything to break the tension but am beat to it.

"I Alpha Henry of the Black Ridge pack reject you, Rose Pilder, as my mate."

Without another word, Henry sharply turns around and heads back into the school only leaving behind the echo of the metal door slamming behind him.

My heart breaks and it feels like my body shuts down. Not knowing where I am going, I start walking into the forest located 200 yards from the school. After what feels like hours of walking I finally pay attention to my surroundings. Mossy trees cover me on all sides. Barely any light shines through.

But it comforts me.

Something feels off. Suddenly, a pain in my sternum erupts but the nature around me captures my scream. Next, my shoulder disconnects and it feels like my skin is tearing apart. I lift up my shirt over my stomach and immediately start dry heaving. There it is, my ribs two times larger than normal, the skin stretched thin cover of dark wiry hair topped off with a blue gray skin color.

The pain just becomes worse and spreads through out my whole body. I fall to the ground feeling disgusted and fearful.

The pain continues until all of a sudden my spine snaps and I fall into a peaceful, painless oblivion.

When I finally come to its dark, but not because of the tree coverage. It has to be at least nine o'clock.

I stand up only to feel disoriented and closer to the ground then I was before. I look down only to find two paws covered in dark brown hair.

I panic for a minute before realizing what has happened.

I just shifted.

Too much about today is going through my mind about today so I decide to start heading home and worry about it after getting into some warm clothes and lying down in bed. My instincts show me the way home and before I know it, I'm in my backyard.

No lights are on. Nobody waiting for me to come home. No car in the drive way. No signs of life.

"They probably went out for a family night" I think and that thought makes my heart break just a little more.

Passing the side of the house, I see my wolf's reflection in the window and take a moment to check it out. Just like my human, my wolf is nothing special. Dark brown fur all around and a little less than average size but something does seem different.

My eyes.

Not the color though. No, they are the same green as they are in human form. The thing that makes me pause is the feeling even I get from staring at myself. They are cold, emotionless, looking like they are not even alive.

Scared, I quickly run inside, and change back to human form which is just as painful. Throwing on clothes I jump into bed and pull the covers over my head.

I want to cry about my mate rejecting me, my family not loving me, and the pain I experienced today. But none of that crossed my mind.

Instead, I kept having these weird feelings. Feelings not like my own. I don't want to be alone right now but I have no choice.

I close my eyes, trying to fall asleep but the feelings continue making me scared and like a child trying to fall asleep after hearing a scary story.

Finally, I fall into a restless sleep with only two things on my mind.
