Daniels' POV
Officer Daniels took a glance at the backseat of his car and continued driving towards the abandon Rose Park. Peter's face still showed sings of the beating and an indescribable rage burned inside him. Peter's bloodied face and his mother's crying face were still freshly imprinted in his memories. He never wanted that scenario to repeat itself again.
He knew Peter lived in a dangerous neighborhood where dying was always a realistic outcome. He wanted Peter to have the ability to handle every situation with a calm, collected mind and that was why he was going to teach Peter how to fight.
The car came to a halt near the entrance of Rose Park. The former park was now, due to the town's negligence, a forest making any form of recretion nearly impossible. However, he knew of place where his training could be done.
Together they walked through the Park's overgrown flora and into a clearing. The area was perfect for his intention and it was secluded so they could do their training without being molested.
The sun penetrated through the coldness that was brought in by the morning breeze. He let the sun warm him as he relaxed his body. He turned his gaze towards Peter who was staring at him awkwardly, confused as to what to do.
"Peter as a police officer I'm expected to know several forms of close-combat. I've learn many forms of martial arms such as Muay Thai which is sometimes called the art of eight limbs since it incorporates fists, elbows, knees and shins. I've learned Taekwondo which focuses on fast and devastating kicking techniques. However, what I'm going to teach you is the the Japanese martial art, Aikido. This martial art consists of redirecting the momentum of an opponents attack to cause damage." He began explaining his intentions.
"So you're teaching me Aikido because it is the less harmful technique ?" Peter asked somewhat annoyed.
" No what I'm teaching you is not a fighting technique but a way of life. This is not for revenge or to look cool but to defend yourself and those you care about when the circumstances require it. This requires discipline and the right mind set Peter." He told Peter.
"I understand Daniels..." Peter replied ashamed of his attitude.
"Look I used to have the wrong mindset, wishing to be strong only for my own selfish desires. I was hurt badly and I wanted the authority and power to seek revenge. However, with time I learned that hatred can only take you so far and now I risk my life everyday so that others don't suffer what I have suffer."
"I see and...thank you officer."
"No problems now let's get started! " the officer shouted encouragely.
The two began with warm-up exercises that focused primarily on flexibility. After that they began Peter's condition to improve his physical strength. Before learning actual techniques Peter needed to be physically capable of following through, if not Peter could seriously hurt himself.
Daniels knew that so he needed to start by building Peter's strenght. After three hours of arduous training Peter lay on the ground drained of all energy.
"So...are we...d-doing this e-everyday?" Peter asked through his heavy breathing.
"Well because of my busy schedule we can't do this often so you have to do it. Everyday work on increasing the strength of both your upper body and your lower body. Do sets of squats, push-ups and curl ups. When I have time I'll begin by teaching you basic stances and forms. However, this process will take time and dedication so don't expect to see results two or three weeks later," Daniels warned him.
"I understand sir," Peter said as Daniels extended his hand toward him..
Peter took Daniel's hand and was lifted up. Peter dusted his clothes, rearranged his glasses and began following the officer out of the Park. Peter sat on the co-pilot seat and Daniels turn on the engine. Daniels drove towards Peter's decretive apartment building and escorted him all the way to his front door. Peter knocked on the peeling wooden surface and his mother cheerfully greeted them.
"Honey welcome back!" she said as she gave Peter a warm hug.
"Mom please stop...its embarrasing ," Peter said shyly causing her to release him.
"Officer do you want to come in?" Peter's mother asked him.
"I wouldn't want to intrude,"
"Its no trouble officer so please stay for lunch and take it as my thanks for training me," Peter said trying to convince him to stay.
"If it isn't a bother to you guys I guess I'll stay," Daniels said finally accepting their invitation.
*********
Peter's POVTwo months have already passed in a blink of an eye and Peter began feeling the changes in his body. He felt himself become stronger and more confident in his ability. He smiled under the cover of the night, he still had something left to do.
"Hey you fool you really want to fight?" One of the three hoodlums that landed him in the hospital asked.
"No shit sherlock !" Peter shouted as he lowered his center of gravity and readied his stance.
Aikido is a martial art that has two aspects, physical and mental, which need to be disciplined and strengthen. Peter's physical training had increased his flexibility and endurance. His mental training had increased his awareness, perception and calmed his thoughts.
"What the hell are you doing? You think you know karate or something?" his opponent ridiculed him.
This comment would've originally eranged him and disruptive his concentration but tonight this was not the case. Peter calmed his mind, regulated his breathing and increased his mental awareness. He was no longer the scared little boy he used to be, now he was powerful.
"Im going to bust your ass you little shit!" his oponent shouted as he lunged at Peter.
Primal ferocity gleam from his eyes and a coat of violence covered his body. Nevertheless, Peter remained composed at the sight of this dangerous oponent who was breed from the violence of the streets. He came so far and like hell he was going to lose!
