Yes, I'll place a spot for original material.
Rules! I'm giving a bit more leeway here because you aren't using source materials. Default character's name for explaining: Alex.1) Fanfictions go in their respective category. This is only for original material.
2) No historical fiction, realistic fiction, nonfiction, historical romance, Western (cowboy) romance, romantic realism. They put me to sleep.
3) I like fantasy, adventure, and Sci-Fi. Romance as a subplot is OK; romance as the entire thing will probably put me to sleep.
4) Since someone asked: yes, I do accept poetry as reading material. No, I will not give critique. Not because I refuse to critique something relatively short, but because I see poetry as far more free-form and having meaning to everything. I'm not going to rip into that or judge it based on the standards for prose that I have.
5) No explicit sex scenes. For non-explicit, give me a warning.
6) Clean language in the post. Very little strong language in the story. Give me a warning.
7) Rape should only happen offscreen and should have a fairly good reason for happening.
8) Tread lightly with drugs. There should be a good reason for including them.
9) No domestic abuse unless there's a really good reason for including it.
10) Don't expect me to get to it immediately. I write, play video games, and am studying various subjects. So it might take awhile.
11) I will NOT follow people just because I read their story OR place the book in a to-read reading list. I will NOT put a story on a reading list if I don't want to continue reading it. I will NOT follow people just because I put their story in a reading list. If I want to follow a person, I will do so, but it takes some really good writing, and some consistency, for me to follow that person. And since I rarely look at my news feed anyway, me following someone is me wanting to say "oh, go check them out," not "oh, I read everything they read/write."
12) Corollary to above: If you update and it's in my reading list and you want me to read it, send me a message. I use my reading list to see who last updated and I might not get to you.
13) Unless I stop right in the middle for grammar, punctuation, or spelling errors, or I fall asleep, I will generally read everything already posted. That doesn't mean I'll vote for it. If the last thing I remember is Alex getting beat up in chapter 12, then that's probably as far as you'd posted.
14) Proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Sentence fragments are OK; this is fiction, not English class. Sentence fragments every single time? Not OK. General rule: if your teachers never put a red/black/blue mark on your papers in regards to poor spelling/grammar/punctuation, then you don't really need to proofread it. One misspelled word, poorly structured sentence, and left out punctuation is fine. Even two or three over a chapter is fine. Too much is choppy and I'm going to write "Too many punctuation/spelling/grammar mistakes for my taste. Sorry." and will stop reading it there.
15) I'm blunt to the point of it coming across as rude. If you're offended easily, I'd say not to post. Or to post you don't want criticism. If you just think you could hook me as a free reader, that's fine. I don't mind.
16) Do not praise my work directly before, during, and/or after you post. Just doesn't make for a good impression. Same thing goes for following me; if you follow me just to get me to read your work, I'm not going to. But thanks for the follow.
17) If you want criticism, let me know. If you don't, let me know. If you don't specify, don't be surprised if you have a random post-it on your chapter. And if you do want criticism, I won't coddle you. But you can choose between "brutal honesty" and "tempered honesty." The difference is in the phrasing.
18) Have fun!
