Song: Daughtry - Start of Something Good

16 years old

Ever since the assembly, they've been closer than ever. When no one was around and they were alone, they'd hold hands, throw arms around each other's necks - just the little things. Especially when they started walking home together, no one was in sight. They weren't together though, nope, they were just doing these things because it felt right to them. And the best thing about that is, that both of them knew that they both felt the same way about each other.

Their history teacher was going over a lesson - that was just boring to begin with, everyone around them looked like they were falling asleep. They sat next to each other and all they were doing was passing notes, and one thing, lead to another

Jonathan got up to sharpen his pencil and dropped a clean folded piece of paper on Evan's desk. Evan took it and looked at Jonathan who was focused on sharpening his pencil - he wasn't staring at Evan. Evan looked back at the folded piece of paper and started to unfold it, only to find Jonathan writing one word in blue ink. 'Peanut' is what it said. Evan just smiled at the silliness and gave in. He took out his red pen and wrote down, 'Jelly'. He folded the paper back up and set it on the side of his desk.

Jonathan eventually came around and easily picked up the paper. He sat back down and unfolded the paper. He giggled silently at what Evan wrote and began to write back. He folded it back up when he was done and passed it to Evan.

'You were supposed to say Butter, mother fucker! xD' It was Evan's turn to giggled silently.

They just kept writing and passing, and when they ran out of room - it was a time for a new piece of a paper.

'I know, which is why I put Jelly. They're the same thing anyways, so it doesn't matter!'

'They aren't the same! Peanut butter and Jelly are totally different!

'Don't use logic on me. xD In an alternate universe they are exactly the same.'

'So, you're telling me that Pb 'n J won't exist because they are exactly the same in an alternate universe?

'I never said that.'

'... why would someone want two things of the same on their sandwich?

'Peanut butter x Peanut butter, yo.

'Okay, Wow. So you're telling me, in an alternate universe, we wouldn't be friends then?

'There's a possibility.

'Then that universe must suck!

'There's probably another universe where we're more than friends.'

'Oh really now?'

'Yeah.. and this could be the universe where it happens in.'

As soon as Jonathan read that, he had no idea what Evan was talking, he was completely bewildered. But even though he was confused by it, he was confusingly happy by it - like was this the day everything changes? He looked at Evan and saw him with his head down on his desk, he wasn't sleeping or anything, he just had his head laid down on his desk. Jonathan went back to the note and took his pen.

Jonathan put the note on Evan's desk and poked him, so he would look up at it. And that's exactly what Evan did, he picked up his head and saw the note. He picked up and slowly unfold it. 'What do you mean by that?' is what Jonathan said.

Evan closed his eye's and cursed in his mind, he was afraid of the result. But there was no backing out now, huh? Evan took his pen and wrote back, not answering Jonathan's question though. 'After class, meet me in the bathroom.

-

The bell rang and the halls flooded with teenagers, either going to their next class or their lockers. Evan was the first one out of his classroom, he went straight for the boys bathroom. With each step he took, he felt himself getting more nervous than ever, he felt new butterflies forming his stomach. When he reached the bathroom, he dropped his bag on the floor by the sink and just stared at himself in the mirror, getting lost in his thoughts that were just storming in his mind at this point.

A few minutes later, Jonathan casually walked into the bathroom and the first thing he noticed was Evan's bag on the floor. Jonathan looked around for Evan and found him pacing back and forth, mumbling things under his breath. He didn't know that Jonathan was in the room with him, he didn't feel his presence and Jonathan didn't say anything, for he was trying to make out what Evan was saying.

"No, that's not good enough." - "What if I play it off?" - "Why is this so hard?" - "God damnit, why does this have to happen to me?" - "How do I just..  do this?" That's all Jonathan could hear from Evan's frustrating voice. He was even more confused than he was back in the classroom. But when Jonathan heard Evan's next question that he asked himself, he felt his heart skip and a smile creep upon his face. He knew it

"What if he actually doesn't feel the same?"

Jonathan shook his head and kept the smile on his face, that Evan couldn't see due to a mask being in the way. "What makes you think I don't feel the same way?" Jonathan asked, which made Evan's eye's wide. He turned and faced Jonathan, who was just crossing his arms and looking right back at him. Evan gulped, "How long have you been standing there?" He asked, so nervously.

"Long enough to hear you get frustrated with trying to figure out how to ask me out." Jonathan simply said. Evan's face flushed and he looked down at the ground, trying to conceal it. Jonathan just giggled, saying, "I knew it."

Evan lifted up his head, "You knew what?"

"I knew you had feelings for me, Evan. You made it very obvious over the past year and a half." Jonathan specified. Evan rubbed the back of his neck with an embarrassed smile. Jonathan walked forward a bit, asking, "Soo, question time?"

Evan looked at him and lowered his arm, and bit his bottom lip. "Uhhh, so Jonathan?" Evan asked him, and Jonathan gave a simple 'Yess?'. Which made Evan gulp once more, saying, "Wanna take a chance on us?"

Jonathan lifted up his mask, showing Evan a warm smile, while saying, "I'd love to."

Now they, were the start of something beautiful.
