There was a thunderous roar as the wind swirled around. I opened my eyes and saw the glowing numbers of 2:17am flashing at me. I could feel my body slowly waking up and I could smell the salt water coming from outside. I could feel someone shaking me. Nik.
“Tay, c’mon. You’ve gotta wake up for me baby” Nik’s musky voice was saying. His so handsome, I thought.
“Wha – What’s going on, honey?” my voice was barely a whisper as I rubbed my eyes.
“We have to go, baby. Everyone’s being evacuated. I think we’ll have to leave Maui. We can have another honeymoon. Quick, Tay” Nik was pulling me up, as the new information registered into my brain. I sat up in to the cold air of our room.
“What’s wrong? I don’t understand why we’d have to leave” I attempted to stand up, but swayed slightly from a head-rush. Nik caught me and sat me back on our large bed.
“There’s a hurricane on the water, baby. That’s why we need to move in such a hurry” Nik sat down on the bed and put his arms around me.
“We have to go; c’mon Nik! We’re running outta time!” I ran to the window in my summer nightgown and immediately got goosebumps. Nik came up behind me and I saw out of the side of my eye that he’d packed our suitcases. I turned and grabbed my bag. “C’mon, grab your bag. We’re going before we get trapped in this hell hole” I waited until he picked up his bag and then I opened the front door. I saw what I had been expecting, but dreading.
