Drop Dead Farrah
Chapter One || "What a pile of shít."
"And then the boy got gobbled up all in one by the giant monster. The end." My mom closed the kid's book, tucking me further into my Star Wars bed covers. She kissed my forehead and opened my bedroom door, reaching to turn the light off.
"Mommy?" She stopped in the doorway, smiling softly at me. "Why did the boy get gobbled up by the monster?"
My mom stared at me. "Because when little boys are being extra naughty, they get eaten up by horrible monsters." She reasoned.
I frowned, cuddling my pillow tighter to my head. "What a pile of shít."
My mom's eyes widened and she glared at me in shock.
18 years later...
"Lucy, this is important to me," I said, gripping the steering wheel tighter. My eyes lifted to the car shop my ex-fiancé worked at and I sighed. A man dressed in a slick grey suit strutted into the store and I caught him wink at Lucy. Díck. "Listen, I forgive you, Lucy; I love you."
I winced, slouching back in my seat. "Hurts worse every time I say it."
"Come on, you only have your lunch hour to do this." With that final battle with my inner thoughts, I climbed out of the car and walked towards the entrance of the store. I was dressed in my work clothes; a dark navy suit and tie with a white dress shirt and polished black loafers.
I spotted Lucy by the counter.
I swung my keys around my index finger as I approached her. When she saw me her eyes widened and she came rushing towards me. "Lucy, this is important to-"
"I know it is, this is what you wanted," She cut me off. "You said that I should move into Joey's house and move on from our relationship and that's what I did."
"I said that?" I asked, furrowing my eyebrows. I didn't remember that.
Lucy nodded. "Yes, and it was great advice!"
"No, Luce-"
"Let's not drag the goodbyes along - it'll only hurt the both of us more." She reasoned, ignoring every attempt I gave to tell her how I feel. "Why don't you just go, and we'll part with a 'see you around'."
I sighed in exasperation. "Lucy."
"Excuse me," The man that entered the store earlier interrupted us, eyeing my ex greedily. "Can I test drive this car?" He pointed to a silver Honda.
No, go way, I thought childishly.
"Of course." Lucy smiled sweetly, leading herself and the customer away with a fleeting smile in my direction. I groaned, stomping back outside and into my car. I still had thirty minutes of my lunch hour left so I drove to a diner on my way back to work.
I sat in the corner of the restaurant with my mango and pineapple smoothie and sulked, reaching for my phone and pulling it out of my pocket, I dialled my best friend's number.
"How'd it go?" He asked as soon as he picked up the phone.
I laughed bitterly. "So bad."
"What happened?"
"She said she wants to go out and live with Joey." I grimaced, taking a gulp of my smoothie.
"Who the fůck is Joey?" Val exclaimed and in other circumstances I would have laughed.
