John, Dave and Karkat walked to school that morning. Karkat seemed to be full of hope as Dave and John had their arms linked. John was holding onto Dave's bicep as they walked and was blabbering on about something that he saw in the UK with his dad.
Dave was in fact listening to John talk but noticed all the hope in Karkat's eyes so raised a brow out of curiosity. When John took a break from talking Dave cut in, "Why do you look so excited Karkles?"
"Huh? Oh, I'm just hoping that when we get to school I'll see my parents and maybe get yelled at." Both Dave and John frowned in confusion.
"Why would anyone ever want to be yelled at, because that's something that no one should ever like!" John's voice sounded a little more squeaky than usual which caught Dave's attention right away. He didn't bring it up because Karkat was right there.
"Well I never get acknowledged by my parents so I'm kind of hoping that one of them is there because I didn't show up at home last night..." Karkat kept up his act as Dave and John walked closely got to school and Karkat looked through all the cars in the parking lot for his parent's car and couldn't find it for the life of himself. He instantly gained a gloomy face until they got to the front doors where Karkat found his mother and father waiting for him. He played off as scared or frightened even though he was supremely happy that his parents cared about him in the slightest.
"Karkat Vantas! Where have you been?!" His father spoke up. Karkat went up to them and waved for John and Dave to carry on without him.
Dave nodded and led John into the school with a slight smile. "I know that you weren't gone for long at all but I did miss you." John blushed softly but rested his head on Dave's shoulder and smiled largely.
"I missed you too. I'm sorry I didn't tell you I was coming home. I thought you would've enjoyed the surprise."
"Didn't I tell you that I hate surprises." Dave looked at him out of the corner of his eyes. John thought for a moment.
"I don't think you did actually." John looked at Dave who made a little noise of understanding. Dave walked John to his locker and dropped him off before going to his own locked and putting in the combination for the lock. He opened his locker and sighed. He looked at the door of his locker to look at the photo of him and John that he had taken a while back. He noticed a girl staring at him. Dave frowned and stared back without her knowing. He grabbed his stuff then closed his locker. He looked back to see the girl was gone. Dave frowned and shook his head to get himself straight. John came up behind his blond boyfriend and tapped his shoulder. Dave turned around and smiled upon seeing John. "What were you looking at?"
"Oh. Uh, nothing actually. I thought I saw a girl staring at me but I guess not." Dave shrugged then
took John's hand. Dave escorted John to class then went to his own. He was not on top of his game today. Dave didn't listen to the teacher's lecture that day. He doodled what the girl looked like. She had red cat eye glasses, a tight black shirt, black lipstick, shoulder length wispy hair and a creepy smile. Dave couldn't get her out of his mind as he stared down at the doodle he had drawn and tapped the eraser on his pencil on the doodle. Dave sighed and looked up at the clock. He groaned softly and slid down in his seat so he was barely in it. Dave pulled out his phone and secretly texted John.
TG: hey hows class
