I once stayed up all night
To see the sunrise
Never blinking an eye
My little fingers held onto the window panes
As the cool black of the night
Morphed into this
Fire and heat
And morning sun
I stared in awe
As the birds answered with their call
I watched as the red and orange
Left the sky
And melded into a breezy blue
And I couldn't comprehend
How fast the skies change
But now that I'm older
And no longer wait for the sun to rise
I realise that the skies are just
A representation of our lives
As we go from the darks and bad
To the beauty and awe we see
Until we reach the easy daylight
Waiting for the sun to set
Only to be engulfed in the night
But forever holding onto the stars
