LM: Sometimes you just need some characters to have sex. You don't want to feel too dirty about it, I mean, you don't want it to be just porn. But you want to read some erotica. You want a backstory, or at least you want the characters to be relatable and hopefully multi-dimensional, and this is where a good short story comes in handy.

MD: Precisely. To quote from our author today, "Praise Jesus Hallelujah!"

Or erotica author Fiona Thrust, who tweets just about every day, "A short story is like a kiss in the dark from a stranger." (Which is apparently from Stephen King.)

So, "Hitching a Ride" starts with Nora, our protagonist, who is a definitely "Type B" rocker. She is brazen and, uh, panty-less, and is driving with the cheating Nick.

Now, fuck, isn't Nick and Nora ... from literature? Google to the rescue: the characters from The Thin Man.

Google says that there is a movie called Nick & Nora's infinite playlist.... Ha! we both Googled at the same time. There should be a jinx for that or something.

We both take a shot of tequila.

Back to the review. So Nora, we learn (and sorry, but this review is going to be all spoilers so if you don't like spoilers, go read the story and see if you agree with us), is riding with Nick, and decides she's had enough, she gets out of the car. With a knife and a phone and she's crazy enough to use them. Then she gets picked up by Mr. OMG, in a lime green Jeep.

The whole time she's a bit nervous -- is he a murderer, she is hitchhiking after all -- or is he the sex god of her dreams? There's some banter, and some overt sexy talk and then they go...

....rock climbing.

And this is where the short story had me.

Good point. It seems so easy nowadays to just get right to the fucking, a 'panty dropper' as it were, but no, here, we are treated to a little romantic interlude in the mountains, and I totally respected that. Especially since she kept the sexy times going with various references to her going commando... but it goes without saying that the story had me when we see his cock in the setting sun. Reminds me of this new tumblr blog that Leslie and I are currently OBSESSED with...OMG. Imagine Simon in the setting sun...

OBSESSED NEEDS TO BE IN ULTRA CAPS We can't call him "Simon" here. Well, leave it in and everyone can know that that's our nickname, not his real name, unless we guessed right, which I don't think we did.

Basically it's this tumblr blog about a guy who takes arthouse photos of his dick. And writing that out makes it sound so pornographic, and it probably totally is, but it's also not. It's amazeballs. Like, so, so good.

We've completely lost focus here. The point is, I liked the imagery that Lola created when they finally hook up in the desert. It was sweet, sensual and really quite hot and since it's now making me think of Simon (ThingsMyDickDoes on Tumblr and TMDickDoes on Twitter) I'm liking it that much more....

We're his biggest fans.

And by biggest, she means, probably his most disturbingly fanatic fans. But he has favorited our tweets how many times? I think he probably thinks we're adorbs.

I've noticed that he has others who are equally obsessed.

But not as equally funny or witty.

Another part that I liked about Hitching a Ride is that there is this ambiguity about it. Is it really for just one ride? Do they ever meet again? Is it just the one time? And I think that it's a nice, literary touch: to not answer the question.

As many of you know (all three of you who read this blog), Leslie and I are constantly looking for sexy, mature romance to review here, and so we were both really excited when this short story by @lolaunscripted was posted because it fit the bill completely: well written, sexy, mature erotica/romance.

....and undiscovered. So check it out, give Lola some love (and tell her to write the next chapter in her mermaid novel, god damn it, which answered the question of how do mermaids have sex.)
