Chapter 15
The smell of stale popcorn and hotdogs swept across the movie theater as Lindsey took another bite out of her candy rope. She had splurged on Nachos with extra cheese and the biggest drink she could hold. It was roughly the size of a small child, but more expensive than a private island.
Thane sat beside her, crouched down in his chair and biting his thumb nail as they watched the latest horror movie to hit the theaters. It was all about a haunted house, a possessed kid, and an evil spirit that had fallen in love with a woman that had just bought his old house.
It was a complete bore to someone like Lindsey...but Thane was into it. She was having more fun watching his reaction than the screen.
She had just shoved a handful of extra buttered popcorn into her mouth when everyone in the theater screamed and jumped. Thane actually latched onto her arm and leaned into her, making her cuddle up next to him.
Benjamin and Penny were sitting behind them, making appropriate commentary as the stupid, big-chested women (who obviously couldn't afford bras) went into the basement to discover where the spooky noises were coming from.
"How are you not scared?" Thane's voice was a deep, grouchy rumble in her ear. His hot breath made her shiver as she leaned closer to him, find delight in his fearful attitude. "That girl is about to get her heart ripped out by a demon and you haven't even blinked an eye."
She shrugged and leaned down in her seat. "We could just forget the movie and make-out like a few frisky teenagers."
Thane lifted a brow and smiled down at her seductively. "I like that idea. You make me feel like a feisty boy that is about to see his first boob."
Lindsey laughed and lifted her lips to Thane's. He tasted like excitement, smooth and warm, and she drew his taste into her mouth, sighing in pleasure with every sweep of his tongue. His big hand curled into her hair and pulled her head back; deepening the kiss and his other hand spanned her waist.
She felt tiny flames of wanton heat break out along her skin. She had never had the pleasure of making-out with her high-school sweetheart during a movie. Her life had been about following rules and trying to please her parents.
She had skipped prom and birthday parties. Church dances and summer camp had been torture. She had never experienced the excitement of getting to second base in the backseat of a car or under the bleachers at a football game.
But here, in this jaunty moment with Thane, all of those things she had missed out on were no longer important. She didn't dwell on what she had never had, but on what she had gained. He made her feel important, alive like she had never been before.
When his heated hands slipped under her shirt and his fingertips touched her back, she squirmed in her seat and threw a leg across his knee. His wonderful mouth threatened to swallow her whole, and she was gladly willing to allow him to do it.
She heard the long "Boo" before small pieces of popcorn began to rain down on them. Lindsey laughed as Penny and Benjamin shouted at them to "Get a room" and "Don't do that sick stuff in public".
Lindsey pulled back and had to find the breath to breathe. Her eyes were glowing with happiness, her cheeks were rosy with excitement, and her smile was full of wonder. For the first time she knew what it was like to be fully accepted by someone that loved her, not because she was family, but because they desired her and wanted her to be with them.
She shook her empty drink at Thane and whispered, "I'll be right back."
He nodded, fully understanding her urge to slip away. She made her way out of the dark theater and had to blink her eyes to get them to adjust to the bright lights in the hallway. The building had been around since her grandparents were babies.
