What the heck!! Where is aunt Sophie? She was supposed to get here while I was asleep. Maybe she got stuck in traffic and had to spend the night at a hotel.
Ya I bet that's it. She'll be here to pick me up for school. I might as well turn on the news. Actually, I'm kinda hungry. Better eat breakfast first. Then afterwards I'll watch the news.
Oh crud! I'm late! I guess I'll have to walk and make a fake call to school. Better get going.

I knew it was about 15 miles to school so I would get there about noon. But I also knew that if I took a short cut through the woods I would make it there in half the time.
That's the thing about being young. You make the most stupid mistakes of your life. If I could change one thing, I would've just kept going down the road and never turned into the woods. Especially since there wasn't even phone service.
