Crash! I sent a lightning bolt straight towards my younger sister's face. She defended herself with a purple dash of magic that flashed her up into a tree.
"Ha! You can't get me!" Chloe taunted me as she swung between the oak tree's branches.
"Oh! Yes I can," I yelled as I summoned a blue cloud underneath me that lifted me high up into the tree where my sister was swinging. Chloe's blonde curls whipped around her face as she struggled to hold on to the branch. She never did stop smiling.
"Here, let me help, Chlo," I said as I sent a wave of water that assisted us to the ground. As we landed on the lush, green earth, we both sat and began laughing.
"You got me soaked!" Chloe yelled.
"Oh, you'll live!" I yelled back. Just then Mother stepped out of the house. Her dark hair, dark skin, and brown eyes looked so different compared to Chloe and my blonde hair and blue eyes.
"Girls," Mother said, "have you been using magic again?" She had a sad look on her face. When we didn't respond she just sighed and walked back into the house.
"Why does she hate magic so much?" Chloe asked. I glared at the door.
"Because her and Father don't have any magic of their own," I said. I stood up and started to walk into the house.
"Maisie?" Chloe asked. I turned around. She pointed to her soaking clothes and hair. I sighed and conjured up a wind that quickly dried us both off. Then I continued to storm into the house.
"Mother?" I yelled.
"Yes, dear?" She said from the kitchen. I stomped in to find her kneading bread dough.
"Why are you so dead-set against Chloe and I using magic?" I said forcefully.
Mother sighed and stopped kneading the bread.
"Because, Maisie," she said, "you are only fifteen. And Chloe only thirteen. You are too young to be messing around with it."
"Mother, you already said so yourself. I'm fifteen. And once I turn sixteen, I can go get married and start my own family. Why can't you just let me live, Mother?!"
"Maisie-" my Mother started, but it was already too late. I was angrily walking to my room. I paced around the room. My sister slowly came in the room.
"Um... Maisie?"
"What, Chloe?" I asked. She didn't say a word, but she pointed above my head. I slowly looked up. There was a gray, looming storm cloud resting above my head. I just sighed.
Then there was a knock on the door.
"Go away, Mother!" I yelled. The knocking continued. I forcefully swung open the door, and to my surprise, my father was standing there.
"Definitely not your mother," Father said as Chloe and I ran into his arms.
"Father, you aren't supposed to be back for another week!" Chloe exclaimed.
"I caught a carriage ride home with an old friend," he said. Father was a sales merchant Who went on business trips often. He left on four two-week long trips every year.
"Now girls, have you been arguing with your Mother?" Father asked.
"Maisie chas," Chloe ratted me out.
"I can't help it," I said," she treats me like a child when it comes to magic! Like I am the most irresponsible person!" Then lightning strikes flew out of my finger tips.
"Well, Maisie," Father said, "it isn't the safest thing in the land." As he slowly puts my hands behind my back. Then, I felt really bad. I did enjoy messing around with my magic, but I knew that my parents were terrified of it.
