All that is tormenting my mind was the accident. I could have sworn I saw a black wolf, big enough to be a bear in front of the car. But then again, I could just be losing my mind as I lose everything near and dear to me.
"Miss Courtney Browning?"
Looking up from my lap to the door way of an entirely too cold waiting room, stands the doctor with a pained expression. I know where this is going, I thought to myself. Tears welled in my eyes, I get a sad but quick 'sorry' from the doctor.
"Do you have family that can come and get you?"
Shaking my head 'no' I know the questions are about to come.
"And how old are you?"
Pulling myself together I answer all her questions.
"I'm 17."
After call, after call we came to no avail. Standing by the front desk an older woman walks in. Snow white hair, pail blue eyes but they don't look cold. I feel like I know the lady but I have never seen her in my life. Her smile is warm and friendly until she looks at me. Her eye's widen and her smile drops. She looks as if she has seen a ghost.
"And what is your name dear?"
She asked composing herself with a nervous smile. Nervously I smiled back before answering.
"Courtney B-"
"Browning." She finished with out a trace of emotion on her face.
"How-"
"Do I know that?" She finished again with a smirk.
"Courtney I'm your grandma."
"Now where is my daughter, well your mother," she asked searching the room.
Just her mentioning that simple phrase made tears brim my eyes. A flash of panic and concern settled on her face.
"Courtney." She said in a stern voice.
"What happened?"
After a long drug out argument about me leaving with my grandma we were finally on our way. Oddly enough even though I don't know her, I feel as if I can trust her.
"Honey we are here, it's time to wake up," she cooed.
Stretching out I look out of the car windows and see that we are in a clearing in a meadow by a log cabin. It was now morning, with the sun shining bright exposing the dew on the long lucid grass of the meadow, it had to be the most beautiful sight I had ever seen.
"Enjoying the view are we?"
Giving a small smile I clime out of the old truck taking in the smells and warm of the morning.
"You live here?" I ask in awe.
"All my life."
I wonder why mom never said anything about her, or ever let us visit her. I think to myself.
Walking into the cabin it was just as beautiful on the inside as it was on the outside. Cobble stone floor with light colored wood as the walls. It was spacious, big walkways like everything was pushed to the side.
"You're going to have to go to the school over here you know," grandma said while hanging her sweater by the front door.
"What High School is it?"
"Green Fields High School, you should like it there."
"You're mother actually went there and let me tell you, you look like an exact replica of her," she said giving me an affectionate smile.
