Comet watched the sun drift behind the forest trees. She sat silently on the snow white fence, watching the trees become shadows of the night. She swiveled her ears backwards when she heard her house folk come outside and call her name for her to come inside. She leaped off the fence expertly and strolled into the den. She walked straight to her small fluffy bed and flopped into it. "Hey! Are you asleep already?" meowed a small cat.

The small cat had a dark and light grey body with light grey stripes on it's front paws. The cat also had bright blue eyes. "Get up, get up, get up!" the young tom kept nudging Comet until she rolled over to face him with a groan.

"What is it this time, Ashy?" Comet meowed with affection in her eyes. Ashy was his nickname. Ash was his real name, well, at least for Comet. The house folk call him Smokey. Comet always thought Ash was much to hyper, but it came in handy when catching something.

"Oh, come on, you lazy lump!" Ash nudged Comet to her feet and raced over to the tall tree-like item near the hole in the den's wall. Ashy jumped onto it and sat at it's edge while looking out the hole. Comet followed with perfect jumps. She padded over to Ash and sat next to him.

Comet sighed, and a sorrowful sigh it was. She had wanted to go out into the world and explore, but her house folk had always shut the small door, leading to outside, when the sky turned dark. They had always put some kind of shield around the house as well. They could never get through it, no matter what they tossed at it's hard surface.

Ash was shaking with excitement as he stared at Comet expectantly. "Don't you see it, Comet?" Ash mewed, his blue eyes gleaming in the moonlight.

"See what?"

"The hole in the wall!"

"What about it?"

Ash sighed. He got up and backed up. Then, as Comet watched in confusion, Ash threw himself at the hole. "No!" Comet meowed in terror. But it was too late. Ash had disappeared.
