Chapter one
Spring had been approaching and the ice caps were melting. Jessie closely stared at her neighbor's dogs outside their yard through her room's window. A giggle always seemed to escape when they licked each other after a playful duel and she couldn't stop smiling. It reminded her of her own dogs she left in London and all the trouble they caused.
She shifted away from her window as rain had started and destroyed the delightful scene, bringing her back to the reality of her ongoing life. A loud buzzing sound got her attention; it was coming from beneath her bed. 'That has to be my phone' she thought. Hurriedly she walked across her room, reached out to a pile of clothes under her bed and rescued her beeping phone.
'Owww, he keeps calling' she whispered with a smile. She answered the call and placed the phone on her left ear. 'Hello Sam' she said. 'Hi love', a warm gentle voice replied; everyday is getting harder without you, I still quite fancy you love. 'Well Sam, you know it wasn't my choice to leave, it's been a year now and I keep telling you to move on' Jessie said with her lips curling to keep her wide smile going. She really liked the idea of being missed and cared about although she had doubts that he was sincere. 'Gosh! Your breaking my heart Jessie, you know I'm dead serious about this.' Sam said. As she thought of a response her room's door swung open; it was Annie her younger sister. 'Jessie Jessie come quick, dad wants to see you.' she screamed. 'Okay fine, give me a second.' Jessie retorted. 'I'll tell him you said you're not coming.' Annie replied and ran off. Being the last born Annie still had a childish behavior and kept annoying her two elder sisters. 'I'll have to call you back Sam, duty calls'; Jessie said in a rash manner. Her smile was completely gone due to her sister's annoying display.
'0kay love, later then, take care of you.' He responded. 'You too.' she replied and hung up; she just kept staring at her door furious at her sudden change of mood.
Claire had been up all night; preparing for her last term paper. Keeping perfect scores is what she was all about; being the second daughter in a house of three girls, she really felt it made her exceptional.
She had just finished reading the last page of her text and decided to take a light rest to get some shuteye. The rain kept pouring and school wasn't in a few hours, she fell to the warm embrace of her bed, enjoying its comfort and hoping nobody would disturb her in hours to come. Bang! Bang! Bang! Loud thuds were coming from her room's door, someone had been knocking violently. Knowing it had to be one culprit; 'what do you want Annie?' Claire screamed. 'Dad wants to see you now!' a rather squeaky and high pitched voice replied from the other side of the door. 'I'll tell him you said mean things to me.' Annie yelled and little racing footsteps could be heard soon after. 'I hate that brat,' Claire whispered, pushing her face against her pillow in mere frustration. 'No happy ending for me I guess.'
Annie woke up crying, she had been bothered by a rather disturbing nightmare. While most of her age mates had nightmares of monsters, she was constantly disturbed by more mature nightmares with occurrences of death of a sibling or parent. It was considerably understandable why she was always so scared, the fear of loss of loved ones is hard to bare. This fact constantly worried her parents, as they were the only ones she really told; she didn't share her bad dreams with her sisters because they kept teasing her when she tried. Annie couldn't bear staying in her room alone, not after this incident. She gently walked to her father's room and tapped him on his back.
