Chapter 1

Wednesday, 20th of July.

Finally, everyone can stop calling me a 12e. It my birthday the day after tomorrow and I am excited, Jess; my boss, said that we can spend it in the city instead of school. I always wonder, why I look older than I am.... I'm really thankful I found Jess, she is really nice, only 28, but owns a coffee shop around the corner of my apartment. I told her about the truth and she took me in as her sister. She also asked me if I wanted to live with her, but I refused. No one knows about how I was the famous "orphan in a run." Even my friends don't know, they think that I live with my father for some reason, I think it was when I told them that my mother got hit pretty hard on the accident, and left out the fact that my father died too...

Meh.

Today wasn't so bad, I chucked my bag on the floor of my room and took out my phone. I thought about what happened today. Charlie, she was a new kid in school, in my class for every subject which is a relief because after the teacher put us together to "get along", we actually do get along and now she is really close. She seemed to be outgoing with me and we both knew we were going to be best friend. By the end of school, we've given our phone numbers to each other and have gone to the stage where you talk to each other 24/7.

I checked the time on my bed side table clock: 3 o'clock. I thought about calling Charlie or not then decided to go with it. She answer on the three ring. "Hey Zoe!"

"Hey."

"What's up, I just got home. Mum is begging me to bring you home tomorrow." She huffed in an unbelievable tone.

"Just wanted to see what you've planed the do, I'm bored." It was true, I had nothing to do until 5:00, when I have to go to the coffee shop to work. "Mind meeting me at the casuarina park at 4?" I asked hopefully.

"Oi, don't go all puppy on me. I just got here and mum's not going to let me walk around by myself. How about I come to your house? Tell me the address." I panicked all of a sudden. No one has ever been to my house, not because they don't want to come, because I can never let a loose clues on how I live by myself.

"Um, how about I come there. Maybe I can help you unpack?" I asked. She agreed with me and told me her address: 6, Flynn Circuit, Bellamack, Palmerston, Darwin. Wow. She lived on the other side of the city. Nonetheless, I changed into a dark blue denim shorts and a white lace t-shirt with the writing 'what ever' on it and packed my one side single bag with my water bottle and the emergency needs with me as I locked my front door and walked down the staircase. Speed walking to the bus stop, I text Charlie to tell her that I'll meet her in 45 minutes.

It wasn't long before the bus came and dropped me off at the bus interchange. I look at the clock and then at the bus timetable to her suburb and sighed.

-going to be 40 mins late, the bus to your suburb takes 20 mins to arrive, then another 20 in the bus. See u soon.

I locked my screen and sat on the benches waiting for the bus. Shaking my leg as I watch the baby on the other side of the bench laughing, I thought of what I should tell Charlie about my parents when she asks. Just as I open my bag to get some water, my phone vibrates.

-y don't I send mum 2 pick u up. From wherever u r? Or maybe I'll come 2, got 2 get used 2 da town 2, u no.

God, she's got to learn how to write properly, even if it's short.

-sure.

I waited for a while until I realise I haven't told her where I am. I took out my phone again and messaged back. I waiting another 4 minutes until I see the same car that Charlie got on after school: White BMW. I walked toward it crossing the road and waved at the girl inside, driving the car was a man.
