There are a two things you should know about me. First I am a rogue. Second I didn't choose this life. It was chosen for me.
I didn't know my mother to well. She died when I was about 6 years old. After that I was put into the system. When I first asked what happened to my mom they said a bad man killed her for some money... That was all they would ever tell me. I didn't believe them though. My dreams were telling me a different story. One where my Mom was killed trying to protect me.
It had been a nice sunny day.. There was a bunch of kids running around and having fun in this beautiful meadow. Even the adults were happy talking to one another and enjoying the sun. Everyone except my Mom. I recognized her long curly black hair immediately. She radiated power because she was in charge, she was the Alpha. I was the only one who noticed that my mom was on edge. I began to walk up to her to see what was wrong when the sky turned black. Everyone froze out of fear. The kids stopped playing. The birds stopped chirping. Everyone was stunned. But my mom seemed to know exactly what to do. She quickly lined me and the other kids up tallest to smallest and sent the adults into hiding. Then this man appeared in the middle of the clearing. He was wearing a black cape of sorts that concealed his face from us. He stepped forward until my mom growled at him to stop. His voice was loud and rough reminding me of cold stormy nights. "Where is Ashlyn!?!" He shouted at my mom. Some of the kids in line began to cower. But my mom stood tall. "You aren't just going to waltz away with my daughter!" She replied. I feel like I can still hear his heartlesd laugh. "You won't be able to stop me Mira!" I remember seeing my mom begin to shake not out of fear but anger... My mom told him that he would get three guesses. If he didn't guess which child was me then he had to leave empty handed. He seemed excited for the challenge.. and that was when he started guessing. I could feel him staring at me as he pointed first to the biggest kid there, then to the shortest. He started to laugh again as he pointed right at me. My mom's face went pale and her stance rigged. He had guessed right. I began to panic, willing my feet to move so I could escape but they were rooted to the spot. Then there was this loud growl/ howl as my mom began to run towards the man. She leaped at him, transforming into a white wolf. He easily dodged her attack. Then threw a lit match at her. My mom began to writh in pain, as she shouted for me to run. So I listened. Shifting into my wolf form I ran. The last thing I remember is looking back to see if my mom made it. The only evidence that the wolf I had seen was my mom was the few white tufts of hair that had managed to survive the burning.
