She walked deeper in the forest taking the little child's hand. Her raven hair flowed around her as she walked. She had just taken him to see the town. The boy, even though little, was a curious fellow.
"Mama, why do we not live in the town?" he asked. She smiled. Her son was intelligent 6 year old.
"Because, my child, we do not belong there." She said.
"Why mama?" he asked again.
"My dear, we don't have anyone to love there. People are dangerous. No one is there to protect us." She said sadly, picking the berries her son liked so much.
''Mama, if there are others to protect them, why not us?" He asked tilting his head in confusion. She sat on the root of the tree and put him on her lap.
"Do you wanna hear a story?" She asked him. He nodded his head furiously.
"Well, before, mama also lived in the town. There was a boy whom mama loved so much, just like you," she said and smiled sadly. Her son started to speak, but she
shushed him."He also loved me very much. One day I had you. I was so happy. I told him. But he," by this time, tears were dripping on her face.
"He said that he didn't want you. But I loved you from the moment I knew I was carrying you. So, I went to my parents. But they also kicked me out. So, I carried my things, some warm blankets and clothes and headed to this forest. When I reached here, I spotted our cave and slept in it. Everyday, I went and searched for fruits and dried some of it so I wouldn't have trouble when I would be in my final months. Then I had you, and all my happiness came back to me. You were my gem, my love, my everything." She finished her story. By now, tears were dripping down her face like a waterfall.
"I want to live in town. I want to meet my daddy." He said.
"My child, please don't leave me. Please. You're all I have. There'll be no one to take care of you." She persuaded him.
"No mama, you don't love me. Otherwise, you would have let me live in town."
"My child, there was no place for me to have you. And there will be no one to take care of you. No one in town. And I love you."
"I'll find another mama. You don't love me. I'll go."
"My child, not many people love each other now. Many will just sell you to earn money. Don't go my child, don't go."
He sneered at her. "I hate you." He said just as hatefully as he thought. "I'll go. Don't try to change my mind, Lilac. And yes, don't call me- my child- from now. I'm Luke." He said more hatefully than before.
"Ok then Luke, I'll fulfill my promise now. I promised that I'll grant your one wish. But, is it what you wish for?"
"Yes."
"Then, good bye my son. I'll be waiting here for you till your 19th birthday. But before you go, just tell me, I love u, one more time even if you don't mean it."
"I love you." He said, turned his back and left, never turning back once again.
