15 seconds. 14 seconds. 13... 12... 11... 10... 9... 8... 7... I stare at the clock above our teacher's desk. 6 seconds until school is out for the summer. 5... 4... 3... 2... 1... RIIING! The sound of the school bell ricochets off of the classroom walls announcing the end of the school year. I grab my backpack from under my desk and sling it over my shoulder as I quickly jump out of my seat and bolt for the door. I make a left and begin to speed walk to my best friend, Blake Vincent's locker. Blake has black hair and light brown eyes. Blake and I have been best friends since the 2nd grade. Now don't get all judgy judgy when I tell you that I'm best friends with a guy. If you think it's weird, well boo hoo for you because I don't care. He's my bestie so deal with it.
When I reach his locker he is already there so I run up to him and hug him. I look up at him and I say, "I can't believe that this was our last day of high school!" He smiles back at me and then replies, "I know right? We'll both be in college next year." I frown at the thought. I honestly don't want to go to college right away, but I'd be worse off if I didn't go right after I finished high school. I was studying to be a teacher because I love working with little kids.
Blake waves his hand in front of my eyes and I snap back to reality. "Come on Jade! Turn that frown upside down!" He takes me by the wrist and begins to drag me out of Wilbur Cross High School out to the parking lot where his 2015 black Chevy Malibu is parked. I hop into the front passenger seat and buckle up my seat belt. I don't drive my own car to school because Blake and I carpool with each other.
Blake starts the car and drives out of the school parking lot. While driving he looks over at me and says, "So lately I've been thinking." I cut him off with an unattractive snort and remark, "Well that's dangerous." He shoots me a look and says, "Shut up and let me talk Ms. Griffen. So I've been thinking that since this is our last summer before we head off to college, it needs to be extra special."
"What's your point?" I ask skeptically.
At this question he smirks. "My point is, I am going to make this the best summer that you've ever had. Last week I came up with a list of 92 things that we are going to do to make it the best summer ever."
"Why 92 things?"
"Well you see, I was doing some math, I know shocker, and I found out that there are 92 days in this summer. That means that I came up with one fabutastic thing for us to do each day."
I think about this for a second before asking a question, "Well may I please see your list?"
He gives me a mischievous little chuckle before saying, "No can do. Every single fabutastic thing we do this summer is going to be a complete and total surprise."
I let out a huge groan as he pulls into my driveway. as I open the door to get out, I whine saying, "Why not?"
He laughs at my childishness and replies, "Because I said so. I want everything we do to be a surprise. I'll be here tomorrow at noon for the first day of of your best summer ever."
And with that, he smiles at me and pulls out of my driveway leaving me just standing here dumbfounded.
