Days One and Two

**Day One**

My eyes flutter open from the sound of my doorbell ringing over and over again. I let out a groan and slowly emerge from under the warm cozy covers and slip my feet into my comfy purple slippers as I stand up and head for my bedroom door. I open the door and begin to pad down the flight of stairs while the doorbell is still ringing. I finally make it to the front door and swing it open in aggravation for all the noise the people on the other side have caused for me. But that aggravation starts to melt away when I see my two friends standing there.

On the left is Emily Black. She has shoulder length wavy blonde hair, crystal blue eyes, and she is wearing dark blue shorts with a faded sky blue top. And on the right is Willow Rivers. She has straight black hair that reaches about half way down her back, vibrant green eyes, and she is wearing black shorts with a Fall Out Boy tank top.

Willow is the first one to speak. "Why didn't you answer the door ten minutes ago?!"

I yawn nonchalantly and reply, "Because I was asleep until the doorbell woke me up. I thought you guys weren't supposed to get here until 10:00."

They both shoot me a look and yell, "It's already 10:20!"

I turn my head to look at the clock on my living room wall. "Oh. I'm really sorry. I didn't set an alarm to wake up. Well I still have to go get dressed before Blake gets here so you guys can watch TV until I get back down, okay?"

They both nod and run into the living room and begin to watch Spongebob Squarepants. We may almost be college students but we still like our cartoons. Don't judge.

I live by myself in a small condo that my mom bought me before she left. She's a famous European actress. She wanted me to come to Europe with her because my dad died seven years ago and I wouldn't have anyone to live with but I insisted on staying in our coastal town of New Haven, Connecticut. She reluctantly agreed and bought me this little house to live in. She sends me $200 dollars each month for groceries or whatever I need and she comes back home to visit 3 or 4 times a year. Yeah I miss her but I wanted her to pursue her dreams.

The first floor of my condo has a kitchen, living room, and a bathroom. The second floor of my condo basically consists of my bedroom, a bathroom connected to the bedroom, and a storage closet like room. And I have a little backyard too. It's not much but it's all I need and it's my home.

I jog up the stairs, going two at a time. When I reached the top, I sprinted the four steps it took to reach my room and the flopped on my bed very dramatically. I don't know why but it seemed fun at the time. After I get off the bed, I strip out of my pajamas and slip on a pair of light denim shorts, a lavender crop top, and the charm bracelet that Blake got me three years ago for my 15th birthday then I walk into my bathroom. I take my hairbrush and begin to brush through my hair getting rid of all the knots and tangles. Then I take a hair tie and put my long curly dark brown hair into a ponytail. I put on a little bit of waterproof mascara because it makes my chocolate brown eyes stand out. Then I turn off the bathroom light and head down to the living room where Willow and Emily are sitting with their eyes glued to the TV just like when I left them.

I decide to join them so I walk over to the couch and prop myself up against some pillows. I was so mesmerized by the TV that I didn't even notice what time it was until my iPhone vibrated with a text from Blake: you ready 4 the 1st day of the best summer ever? I smiled at the message and I looked at my clock. It's 11:45. I only have 15 minutes to eat before he gets here. Crap. Total crap.

I quickly turn off the TV and receive a few groans from Willow and Emily but my stomach doesn't really care. It wants food. So I grab a big quilt off of the couch and run to the kitchen to get some food. I take a giant container full of mac and cheese and stick it in the microwave. While that is heating up, I open the back door leading to my backyard and go lay the quilt down in the shade of an oak tree because it's a beautiful day for a picnic. Then I run back inside and call Emily and Willow out to lunch as I grab the food, plates, silverware, and three Cokes from my fridge. We all grab a drink and plop some food on our plates before heading outside to the blanket.
