Lady hopped into the backseat of the black Mercedes with her teddy Brownie in her mouth.
Even in the accident she didn't let go of her bear.
She still looked a bit skittish but that's to be expected.
I hooked her up and strapped her new harness.
I rubbed her head and told her she would be ok and we would be home in no time.
I hopped in, buckled up and pulled out of the parking lot waving goodbye to Sue, Seth, Leah and Harry Clearwater.
The drive was slow and I was trying to enjoy it, but my mind was a buzz with worry.
Pulling into the driveway I saw Jasper, Alice and the others kind of off to the side.
Edward wasn't there so he must be with Bella again.
Carlisle came up to the car by himself and opened the back door.
Lady backed up a bit so I told Carlisle I would get her.
I knew she might be nervous.
He backed up and I unstrapped her.
She picked up Brownie from where she had laid him to lie her head on him like a pillow.
I grabbed her harness but she seemed scared.
"Lady is shy around strangers guys.
Sorry about that.
But once she warms up to you she'll be all loving.
You'll know if she likes you.
She'll let you hold her teddy, Brownie."
Carlisle put out his hand and Lady backed up a little.
"Its ok Lady.
He won't hurt you.
He won't take Brownie away."
I tried to talk soothingly to her.
Scratching her behind the ear but she just stayed close to me.
Maybe she knows they're vampires?
Carlisle looked at her with sympathy.
He slowly reached out and scratched her behind the ear.
"Its ok Lady.
None of us will hurt you.
Your daddy would kill us if we tried,"
Emmett commented.
Jasper let go of Alice and walked slowly towards me and Lady.
The closer he got the more Lady seemed to relax.
His gift.
He reached slowly across and started petting her and talking calmly.
With Jasper's help I was able to get Lady into the house.
She apparently took an instant liking to Alice and Jasper.
Especially when Alice started to brush her.
I popped in Lady's favorite movie into the DVD player.
Lady and the Tramp.
She perks up every time her name was called in the movie.
She laid her head in Jasper's lap during the movie with her teddy, Brownie under her head.
Alice just kept on grooming her.
She was much more calm.
I don't know if it was because of Jasper or the grooming and her movie.
