I couldn't sleep after the whole incident with my sister. I decided to go out on the porch and just think, clear my head, get my shit together. It must have been a few minutes, maybe an hour, possibly a couple of seconds, I don't fucking know. I remember thinking the night was so dark. The sky wasn't blue but black, and the stars were scarce. And then the door to Alex's house flew open. My heart jumped and skipped what felt like a thousand beats, funny looking back on it because I wonder where that heart has gone. Alex flew, hair all in her face.  She looked frantic, apprehensive, anxious. Her head swung in my direction and for a moment I swore she could see me, but I knew she couldn't. Should I have said something? What could I have done if I didn't know what was happening? Bullshit excuse for me and both Alex and I knew that.
