❁ CHAPTER 3
"Wow" Katherine grins "Sounds like drama" I roll my eyes fondly at her attempt at a joke.
"Yeah, it was" Katherine continues to scribble down notes and I use the silence to recollect my thoughts.
I lift my head to the ceiling and tap my fingers on my thigh getting nervous about what happened next. "Ok, continue" She says tucking a loose strand of hair behind her ear, I suddenly find myself wondering what it looked like down and out of that boring low bun. "Gaby?" She says snapping me back to reality.
"Yeah, right sorry" I apologize clearing my throat "So after the drama club meeting Gavin offered to walk me home..."
"So" He starts knocking our shoulders together as we round the corner and my house comes into view.
"So"
"Did you have fun tonight?" He asks
"Are you kidding? It was just what I needed" I reply easily moving closer to him "Thank you."
"I didn't know what it was but something about him I gravitated towards."
"All of it?" He presses on, and I know instantly what he's talking about. I think back to the kiss and how safe I feel when I'm with him, I didn't know what that meant but I did know I couldn't take loosing him.
Suddenly I feel brave grabbing his hand and intertwining our fingers "All of it"
"Good cause so did I" He confesses and I'm suddenly grateful for the night because in the darkness of the street lights he couldn't see the blush on my cheeks. We walk in a comfortable silence up to my porch, and a low chuckle escapes his lips.
"What?" I grin
"It's just I was thinking about the first time we talked, how you convinced me to go on stage." The memories come flooding back to me and a chill finds it's way up my spine. That wasn't exactly a great night for me, "I never thanked you for that"
"Well, you did give me twenty bucks" I remind him.
He laughs "Very true," I smile looking down biting on my bottom lip, I feel Gavin's gentle hand lift chin, my eyes on his and his thumb runs along my cheek. "So are we going to give this a chance?" He asks me and I can tell he's nervous too. My hand hesitantly reaches for the one on my face and I pull it down once again kissing him. This time it's more passionate his hand snaking around my waist and pulling me closer. My hand touches the back of his head as his tongue finds his way inside my mouth.
"Ella" His voice calls out and my heart jumps as I push away from Gavin. I find myself looking into the eyes of the one person I thought I'd never see again.
"Ian" I breathe, his hair is flat against his forehead he has a duffle bag in his right hand and a motorcycle helmet in the other.
I stand in shock my feet unable to move as I stare at him taking in his features, he's breathing heavy, his dirty white shirt is plastered against chest and he looks tired. Part of me wants to run up to him and tell him I missed him, but a bigger part of me feels like screaming, like punching him and telling him I never want to see him again. I can feel my vision getting blurry with tears but I refuse to cry in front of him.
"Ian?" Gavin questions "You're back?"
Ian's eyes don't falter from mine "Yeah, I'm back"
There's noises ringing in my ears and I can feel a craving for chips so I do the only thing I can think of, I unlock my front door and run inside. I slam it behind me finally giving into the tears as my back slides down the door.
