The ball room was packed. There were many women dressed in fancy dresses and too much jewelry. Katherine still had the white dress on. She stumbled in the high heels she was wearing.
"This is stupid."
She wasn't paying attention and slammed into something hard. She looked up. A tall man with brown hair and green eyes smiled at her.
"My my, already falling for me I see." The corners of his lips tugged up into a smirk.
She glared at him with her cold gaze. "No. I'm not." She swerved to the side and continued walking.
He reached out and grabbed her wrist tightly.
"Eh? Let me go!" Katherine whispered.
He chuckled. "Not a chance sweetheart. I want to marry you." He played with her hair while humming.
"Idiot. As if I would marry someone like you."
"Now now Princess. Don't be so rude. You barley know me. I can treat you like a king."
"Tch." She looked away. "I don't need to be treated like a king. And I'm not marrying you."
"Katherine! Katherine Silver I will not sit here and allow you to talk to Prince Conner like that." Queen Diana stepped in.
"He is perfect for you to marry. This kingdom needs a king when I pass. He is perfect for you."
"Mother, you can't seriously be supporting this..."
"I am. Now I would like both of you to take a romantic walk in the garden." Queen Diana pushed Katherine towards the door that led to the garden. Prince Conner followed.
•
"You don't have to seem so displeased.""I am."
"Cmon, it's a beautiful night. You're with me. What else could you want?" He gave a smug look.
"Shut it."
"I want to marry you." He said, ignoring her command.
"I don't want to marry you. Get it through your big head."
"That's no way a wife should speak to her husband."
"IM NOT YOUR WIFE!"
Prince Conner frowned and grabbed Katherine's necklace. He yanked it off and threw it to the ground.
Katherine stood in shock, completely frozen. It was like a switch went off. She grabbed Prince Conner by the collar of his shirt and threw him on the ground.
"You. Broke. My. Necklace." Her cold stare had turned into a deadly one, one no one had ever seen before. His eyes widened slightly with fear, knowing that girl wasn't to be messed with.
"If my father hadn't of taught me to be good...I would have your head right here, right now." With that, she scooped up her necklace and stormed away.
•
"I think I can fix it."Shadow looked at her and gave a slight nod. Katherine smiled.
"I knew coming to see you would make me feel better."
She stroked his head and then went back to fixing her necklace."And...there! Good as new!" She slipped it back around her neck.
"I'm going to stay here for a while. Mother will have my head when she finds out what I did to that low life."
Shadow flicked his ear.
"I know ya don't understand. I don't understand ya either. Oh well. One day we'll understand."
She grabbed Shadow's blanket and wrapped it around him.
"You stay warm tonight. I'm not sure if I'll be able to come out tomorrow. I'll probably be grounded." She sighed. "But next time you can watch me fight with my sword. Afterwards we can ride to the apple orchard and I'll feed you the most delicious apples you've ever had. Deal?" She held her hand out to him. He gently nuzzled her hand.
"Okay. I'll see you tomorrow." She exited the stable.
•
"How pathetic." Vicky sneered as Katherine walked inside the castle."What?" She asked.
"Pathetic. Can't you hear?"
Katherine slightly glared.
"How could you do that to Prince Conner? He is darling. Big and strong and charming. He's perfect."
"He's also demanding, rude, and straight out big headed."
"Wait until Elizabeth finds out."
"What can she do? Get it through your head that I'm not scared of you anymore."
"We're still stronger than you. Two against one."
"But by yourself you aren't a match."
"Think you're tough because of all that filthy knight mess?"
"It's high quality surviving skills."
"How cute."
Katherine rolled her eyes and walked upstairs to her room, quietly closing her door. She sighed and plopped down on her bed.
"If I want to practice sword fighting, I have to get up early so Mama doesn't find me."
•
The next morning was chilly. Katherine quickly dressed. Today she wore a long sleeved shirt and long pants with her boots. She slipped on a cloak and walked into her closet. She reached towards the top shelf where she usually kept her sword. It was gone."Huh?" She continued to feel. No sword. She searched all around her closet and her room but it was no where to be found.
Panic surged through her.
"Great. Just great. Where did I put my sword...?"
Her eyes widened slightly. "The basement. I'll check the basement." She slipped out of her room and quickly ran into the basement. She shut the door behind her. Looking to her right, she grabbed a lantern and lit it.
"Dark." She forwarded her eyebrows and looked around. She was about to lose hope when she saw a glisten. She turned towards it.
"My sword!" She rushed towards it and grabbed it.
"There you are." She leaned against the wall behind her and sheathed her sword.
Suddenly, the wall began shaking. She jolted up and watched as the wall opened, leading to a secret room. Hands shaking, she held the lantern in front of her and walked inside.
"Woah....."
