Chapter 6

The sun peeked through the small cracks of the many trees. The sun had just rose, causing a chilling but sweet sight of the rising sun. Katherine wasn't quite sure which way she was heading, but she just wanted to be free.

They had just exited a forest, the fourth one that day. She felt like she was getting closer. Getting closer to success and fulfilling her dream of becoming a knight. She had hidden herself well, only telling Nona and Donte that she was a princess. She trusted them and knew they wouldn't tell her secret.

By the end of the day, Katherine had lost track of how far she had traveled or how long. She knew it had to at least be two months. As fast as Shadow could travel, she knew it would be a while before any of her kingdoms navigators could find her.

She came to a stop at a village. A large one too. It was larger than anyone she had been to, including the villages in her own kingdom. She took a deep breath and began to explore.

The village was much like hers. It's buildings were a golden color with brown window panes and roofs. Unlike her village, girls were play fighting with swords while their mothers watched them from the distance.

Everyone stopped to stare at Katherine and Shadow. They had a look of confusion on their face. Katherine paid them no mind, as she rode past them.

"Excuse me." A man ran up to her. "You...you're carrying around a sword....a knife....how? You're a woman that's not from around here. Who are you?"

Katherine decided not to tell the man she was a runaway princess.

"I'm a woman in seek of a new life. A life which allows women to do the same as men in the duty of protecting the king and queen."

A small smile crept across his face. "Well, you've come to the right place. Welcome to Kimo. Here in this kingdom, we allow women to train as knights and warriors. Although, there isn't one woman enrolled in the school of warriors. But you can be the first. How does that sound?"

"This is a kingdom? A kingdom that allows woman to be what they want to be. Yes! Yes of course!" Katherine threw herself off of Shadow and smiled happily.

"Where do I sign up? What does the class teach? Where will I stay, what will I eat?"

"One question at a time! I'll take you to sign up, probably in the morning. They teach students how to duel with weapons and without, medicine, first aid, philosophy, and what being a warrior is all about. It's a tough journey, many have dropped out. Those who have graduated have become one the best warriors the world has ever seen. They said the time and hard work is worth it. What do ya say? Are ya in?"

Katherine smiled like a Cheshire Cat. "Oh yes, I'm in."
