Once Upon a Time. . . I changed the plan and then went shopping

I swallowed nervously as Darcie opened her porch door.

"Hey Darcie," I said glumly.  "I need to tell you something."  Here it was.  The moment I was supposed to tell my best friend I was dying.  A lie.  "I-I-" I tried to say.

"You you what?" Darcie asked.

"I... am not going if you aren't!!" I said suddenly.  I had no idea what I was saying.  That wasn't going to work I knew.  Darcie had her reasons, reasons I didn't know, but she was almost as stubborn as me when it came to these matters.

"Well you're not going then," my best friend said.  Told you it wouldn't work.  "I guess you're... staying," she continued hesitantly.  I knew it, something's up with that girl.  Time to be stubborn.

"Give me one reason not to!" I said.

"You said you weren't going if I wasn't," she pointed out.

"I'm a great friend.  But sorry, I could meet Niall Horan in person, I'm not that great of a friend when you're the one being stubborn and refusing to come with.  Speaking of Niall Horan, I talked to him.  We chatted on FaceTime after he tweeted me.  Love the new username by the way.  Anyway, he said that I should come talk to you and try to get you to come with me.  He said that if you're my best friend, why wouldn't you be happy to come with me while my dreams were coming true?  I thought 'Hey yeah, you're my best friend.  Even though you're being crazy, you always come through for me in the end.'  Guess Niall and I were both wrong about that.  I'll be going now, I have to pack some clothes for the tour," I said, rambling at first but getting angry at the end.  Yes, I totally pulled out the guilt card.

I know I shouldn't be angry at her, but I had always encouraged her dreams and now that one of mine was coming true, she wasn't encouraging me.  This was one of her dreams too, we had talked about how much we wanted to meet One Direction and make Harry and Niall fall in love with us.  But now that she got the chance to meet Harry, she was backing out.  When the lady had called me, the first person I had thought of calling and telling the good news to was Darcie.  We had fangirled and she was definitely all happy and excited that she'd get to meet the famous not-so-much-of-a-boy-band.  So what the heck happened?  I mentally slapped myself for being all cliche.

I walked home sadly.  I probably should have kept with the original plan, the one I came up with by myself after Niall ended the call.  But I changed my mind last minute and went with Niall's plan of just talking to her.  At least Christy would be there for the first, oh, maybe five minutes?  I sighed, then realized I was being all sad and depressed.  I needed something to make me smile.  I thought of Niall for a moment.  Well that worked quickly.  I decided I needed a shopping trip before going on tour.  I wasn't someone to worry about how I looked, but I did like browsing the shops even though I rarely found something that I liked.

Currently, I was wearing a baggy light brown T-shirt that said "Baobob Blast" and in smaller letters around that it said "VBS 2010".  I had a lot of VBS T-shirts and wore them often, along with other baggy shirts.  I didn't wear long shirts, I wasn't a fan of how the fabric of the sleeves stuck to my arms, it was itchy and uncomfortable.  In addition to the shirt I was wearing a pair of brown capris.  They had lots of pockets and the fabric wasn't super thick, so they were some of the most perfect summer bottoms ever.  A weird quirk about me is that I didn't like to show a lot of my legs.  I basically hated shorts and lived in capris all summer, until winter when I could hide behind my jeans.  I was a very modest dresser, with my baggy shirts and long bottoms.  But I did want to buy at least one cute shirt and maybe, just maybe, a pair of shorts.

After taking the bus down to the mall since I didn't have my license, I stopped right in the doors of the mall and looked around.  I loved coming to the mall.  It was filled with people, smelled of food, and had lots of different colors.  I browsed for a while, walking into random stores.  Some stores I would walk right back out, but others I took a while, looking around to see if I would wear any of the clothes.  The one thing I did find in Claire's is a pair of sunglasses.  I've always been one to buy aviator sunglasses.  You know, the type that cops wear in all the old movies?  It ties in with my usual outfit, a.k.a what I'm wearing today.

I'm special like that, I can wear any combination of stuff and look fabulous while doing it.  I combine the weirdest accessories sometimes.  I remember this one time that I wore a blue Hello Kitty hair bow with my red summer dress, some black, blue and white DC shoes, and my aviator sunglasses.  I looked awesome.  The thing is though, last summer my sunglasses broke, so I was really glad to find this pair.  You can't find them anywhere, especially not the reflective type, which are my favorite.

Eventually I wandered into this small store tucked away in a corner of the mall.  It didn't look like it got a lot of business, but the clothes were exactly my style.  I found a blue shirt that said "Ask me about my dinosaur shirt".  It was one of the ones that you flip up so there's a dinosaur where your face is.  I was going to get it, but I could picture myself forgetting to wear a tank top... well you get the idea.  After wandering through the store and laughing at all the funny shirts, I finally found the perfect three.

The first one was midnight blue and on the front there was a picture of Peter Pan from the 2003 movie.  The back of it said "All children grow up....except one" in yellow letters.  Me being the big fan of Peter Pan that I am, I had to get it.

The second one was red and said in bold black letters, "RIP Kerfuffle."  I had no idea what that meant, until I looked on the back.  It was a unicorn standing over a gravestone.  The shirt made me laugh, so I figured "eh, why not."

The third one was purple and slightly form fitting, but not too much so.  The sleeves and bottom of the shirt were trimmed in white lace, and it looked really cute.  There was also a white flower stitched onto the hip.  I got it so that I would at least look nice for one day while on the tour.

After I payed and started walking out the store, I noticed one more shirt.  I couldn't resist and had to grab it off the rack, walking sheepishly back to the store lady.  It was way too big on me, which was fine because it was definitely going to be a shirt no one ever saw me wear in public.  The dark green fabric joined the other three shirts in the bag.  As I walked out of the store for the second time, I noticed a shirt I had to get for Darcie.

It was orange-ish.  Maybe it was more pink.  Or like, salmon?  Anyway, it was along those lines in color.  It said in purple letters (It must have been a pink shirt then) "Future Mrs. Styles."  I got it a size too big, so she could wear it either way, a sleep shirt or just regular.  Even though I was mad at her and she was confused in the head, I knew she'd still love the shirt.  Especially since there was a cat stitched onto the bottom of the shirt.  Darcie loves cats.  Sighing I once again walked back to the counter and bought the shirt.  The lady laughed at me, and I joined in.

"Couldn't resist huh?" she asked.  "Harry is a cute one."  Um, she was like, fifty years old.  Awkward.

"Haha, well I guess, but this shirt's for my friend," I informed the lady.  She nodded and winked at me before handing me the shirt.  I stuffed the shirt in my now very full bag and left the store.  Then I walked back in and snatched a business card off the counter so that I'd be able to look at the online store.  Cashier Lady didn't even look up as she gazed dreamily off into the distance, probably imagining a shirtless Harry Styles.  Ew.

When I got back home I threw my bags on my bed and ran out the door and down the block to Darcie's house.  After ringing the bell countless times, her older brother finally opened the door.

"Hey Ronan.  Is Darcie here?" I asked.  It was a pointless question, it had been, what, like two hours since I was here last?

"Sorry, she's at Christy's," Ronan told me.

"Oh.  Well thanks anyway Ro," I said, waving goodbye as I walked away.

"Don't call me that!" he yelled after me.

"What's that?  I can't hear you Ro, sorry!" I said.  I went home and tried to think of a way I could get to Christy's house.
