Kurt's POV

"Zisteau..... can you come here please?" I ask, glancing behind me.

"Sure" Zisteau says, moving to stand beside me "whatcha need?"

"Can you look through the files and pull up the chart for today's date. should be a year old."

"On it"

I move over to the telescope, examine the stars and taking note of each one.

"Found it."

I look at the screen and then back to the sky. the difference is astounding.

"Do you see what I mean?" I ask Zisteau

"To be honest, no."

"Look at this group of stars here" I point to spot in the sky "then look at the same thing here" I point to the same spot on the screen. "tell me what you see."

"Um.... it looks different, like there are less stars...."

"Exactly. if you look closely you will see that some of the stars are becoming dimmer and a lot ate just plain out missing."

"Wow..... have you told Guude yet?"

"No, not yet. I've been trying to get a good theory together before I did."

"And?"

"I haven't been able to come up with one yet.... none of this makes sense. how and why could the stars just start disappearing."

"I don't know Kurt"

"I just need to think about it some more, maybe there's something I'm missing."

"Kurt... why don't you take a break, you've been working for hours and its getting late. have you even eaten dinner yet?"

"No, haven't had anything since lunch."

"Come on, let's go get something to eat."

I take one last glance at the screen before agreeing, albeit reluctantly.

I watched Zisteau close the front door behind him. I had promised him I'd go to bed soon and wouldn't stay up any later than usual.

Though.... I did get an idea.

I head up to the dome and turn on the computer, booting up the star chart program.

I open the most recent star chart and look at it. it was dated: 1/1/2015

That was this years New Year's Day. it was time stamped: 12:00 AM

It was the exact start of the new year.

I take a close look at it, seeing the many, many missing stars, the gaps in the sky were stars should be shining brightly. I also see the dimming stars.

I zoom in on a certain region and I am extremely astonished by what I see. one of the stars has what looks like an explosion on it.

I zoom in as far as I can and see that it was indeed the star exploding and not something around it.

My stomach tied itself in knots when I came to the realization of what was really happening.....
