His kisses lined my throat, as he made his way up to my face. He passionately kissed my lips then leaned over to my ear, "WAKE UP MAYA."
I jerked awake. My cheeks flushed as the thought of my dream came back. "It's time for school honey." My mom knocked on my door. "Coming mom." I said. I then threw the bed covers off and slipped on a simple outfit. I brushed my tangly mess, and put on natural makeup. I swiftly left taking a bagel on the way out. I couldn't wait to see my best friend, and even more, her hotty of a cousin..
I walked my normal way to Riley's house, ignoring the creeps as usual. I wasn't scared of them anymore. They weren't as frightening because I was used to them now. And radiated roughness as I passed. When I arrived at Riley's house, Josh greeted me at the door, "Hey Maya!" He said cheerfully. "Hey hottie- I mean Josh." My cheeks turned Crimson as I pushed past him and ran quickly to Riley's room, seeing if she was done yet. I met her with the usual remark and we left for school. Completely ignoring Josh persistently pestering me.
When we got to school, I slammed my stuff on my desk and slid in as usual. Mr. Matthews took his spot at the front of the room. "True Love." He started. "No one knows what it is until they feel it." Farkle groaned and mumbled something about Belgium. "Somehow your perfectly fine, then the next minute your heart explodes and all of a sudden you want to be with that person, every second of every day."
Riley and Lucas shared a sly look. As the thought of Josh popped in and out of my mind. "Maya, have you ever experienced true love?" Mr. Matthews asked. "Nope. I don't need someone to stomp on my heart when I least expect it." I grinned impishly, at least part of that was true. "Okay then.." Farkle?" Fatkle took a deep breath as to prepare himself when he replied, "I feel it every minute of every day when I'm around my friends and family. True love isn't involved romantically sometimes, mr. Matthews. Most of the time it's how you feel around the people you trust and love."
"Good job Farkle." Mr. Matthews replied. " Riley- RILEY!" He yelled making Riley jump and turn back around towards the front of the room. "Looks like ranger Rick is getting him some attentionnnn." I sung. Lucas flushed. "Yes daddy?" Riley replied innocently. This is the part where I tuned out listening to thoughts about Josh swirl around my head, instead of paying attention to the lesson.
As soon as the final bell rang, I left the class faster then before. I was finally looking forward to seeing something.. Or someone. I was going to rush over to the Matthews house to see Josh one last time before he left for Philadelphia. When Ranger Rick stopped me. " i need your help." " for what cowboy?" I asked. "I want to ask Riley to the SemiFormal." He stated blatantly. " and you need my help because.." I dawdled. " your her best friend! Tell me how!!" " follow your heart ranger Rick. It always seems to lead to good." I turned around and walked away.
I silently walked to the Matthews apartment deep in thought. What if Josh asked me to the SemiFormal? I doubt it. He would be in Philly by the time it came around. I literally had no chance of ever dating him.
When I finally did arrive at the Matthews house, living proof of my worst nightmare was making out on the sofa. " sorry Josh. Just leaving." I ran to Riley's bedroom and buried my face into the pillows surrounding the bay window. He wasn't mine. I knew that. I knew he wouldn't know if I didn't tell him. He just continued with his normalcy. An 17 year old boy, with 17 year old girls. Not some anomaly called Maya. A 14 year old.
