Chapter One-
The silence that echoed throughout the hall ways of the high school was almost deafening. Nobody had to say anything. Everyone knew. Sylem Blaire had arrived. Everyone stood back and watched her walk down the hallway, flipping her long blonde hair over her tan shoulders. She was dressed just like any other normal day in tight dark skinny jeans, and a snug red v-neck t-shirt; her brown boots clicking against the cold hard floor beneath her. Actually, the only thing different was that a boy was standing in front of her locker trying to unhook his raggedy backpack from the lock on which he had managed to get it stuck to. That was an unspoken rule; You NEVER stood anywhere near Sylem or talked to her unless she chose to have you there.
“Is there a reason you’re standing in front of my locker?” Sylem asked a threatening edge to her melodic voice. The boy turned and even though he had to be about six feet tall, their eyes met. Nobody but the boy in front of her noticed the way her face turned red, or the way she dropped her gaze to the floor, drawing in a sharp breath before glaring back up at him. “Do you have a hearing problem or something? I’m pretty sure I just asked you a question.” She turned towards the crowd of teenagers pretending not to notice what was happening “Didn’t you all hear me ask him a question?” The hall stayed silent. The boy however, grinned down at Sylem. “I’m hooked onto the lock.” He said as if it should have been the most obvious thing in the world.
Sylem sighed like what she was about to say was taking all the energy she had left in her. “You’re new aren’t you?” “Yeah actually me, my brother, and my mom just moved down here from Texas. Tod…” she glanced up at him and cut him off with a swipe of her hand. “Well here’s some advice for you okay? Get yourself unhooked and stay the hell away from my locker.” With that being said, she pushed past him, opened her locker, put her stuff up, and then pushed through the crowd of people behind her, leaving them all with their mouths hanging wide open. “Hey! You didn’t ask me my name!” the boy yelled, causing her to stop in her tracks and then turn back around. “That’s because I don’t really care what your name is but… I’m sure you’ll find out what mine is soon enough.” She said fighting a smile, and walking down the hall way.
“Hey Sylem, wait up!” Sylem turned and skidded to a stop before almost running into her two best friends; Malika and Kara. “Okay. What was that all about?” Malika said, pushing her choppy black bangs out of her face. Kara nodded in agreement. “What? That boy was in my personal space. I mean I don’t care if he’s new. Someone should have told him the rules or something. I mean does he have a early death wish?” she asked, smiling sarcastically. The way her friends were staring at her; you’d think they’d seen a ghost or something. “What?” she asked, annoyance drowning out the niceness in her voice. Malika smiled and looked at Kara; a big grin stretched across both their faces; they turned towards their friend. “You LIKE him…” they said, almost completely in sync.
Sylem laughed, but anyone close to her could easily tell that it was forced. "You... you guys think I like HIM? Of all people really?" she stuttered, rolling her eyes. "Well... yeah I mean any other person who was that close to you and then talked to you like he did, you would have bitten their head off." Kara said, the beginning of a smirk on her face. "Whatever. You both know that I dont fall easy for anyone and exspecially some new smooth talking country boy from "Texas"." She turned away from her friends with a swing of her long blonde hair and walked away calling behind her "Party. My house tonight. You know the drill."
