Tasha was pleasantly swimming under the influence of painkillers when Nick arrived almost an hour later in one of the rooms in the Emergency.
"You finished up quick," Jase murmured.
"Doug took over the lead. I'm in conflict of interest. He found the knife. She must have been swimming in adrenalin. It flew a fair distance. Then she always had an arm on her," he answered. "You guys will need to give statements as soon as you are done here," he bent over and kissed Tasha's forehead. "Scared the shit out of me Stretch."
"Yeah me too," she smiled woozily.
"You have never been as much trouble as you are tonight sis," he smiled back. "Glad you are okay."
"Okay it's time for your cast Mrs. Sanderson," came a chipper voice from the door as she wheeled a cart in behind her.
"Do you want me to call the terrible twosome," he asked referring to Sheila and Anna.
"Already did," Jase rumbled. "Sheila took off as soon as she knew we were okay to stay with Gabe and Dan. I called them a bit ago to tell them we are okay. They don't think she will have to stay so I'll drop her off and head into the station for a statement."
"I could give you a statement now, but I'm not sure if I'll be all there," she smiled again. "I feel okay now though you wanna ask me stuff brother dear??"
"Nope I don't Stretch. I got what I need for now."
"You yell too much anyway," she grumbled.
"Really," he arched a brow at her.
"Yep," she replied simply and turned back to the nurse. "You think he's all calm and stuff but let me tell you they both are really miserable when you find yourself attacked by Tweedledum and have to cold cock the Spider Queen," she told the nurse.
"You really like the pain killer don't you?" the nurse smiled as she layered wet plaster and gauze on her arm.
"Yep."
When she was done with her cast and Nick had left to guard prisoners grumbling that the most interesting case in months had to involve his sister where he had to take a back seat role due to a conflict of interest, Jase wheeled Tasha out of the hospital and back into the SUV.
"I can walk you know," she grumbled.
"Yeah just let me do this that way I know you'll be where I put you," he replied.
"I'm sorry I scared you," she snuggled into his arms knowing that she had a freebie because of her injury and painkillers. This reprieve likely wouldn't last long. "I thought it was just Angela."
"Why couldn't you trust me to deal with it," he sighed. "Why can you never trust me."
"It's not that I don't trust you, Jase," she answered. "It's that I don't trust myself. I let someone else rule my life and I almost lost everything. I have to stand on my own two feet."
"You could have been killed. You didn't need to take that risk!" he argued.
"You could have been killed too. Why is it different?"
"Because I would have waited until the police arrived if you hadn't have raced in there," he replied. "I wouldn't have gone in hell bent to take everyone on by myself and risked my life if I had been alone."
"Even if it was just Angela?"
"I would have watched but I knew Angela wasn't in this alone. I would have been smart. I know I have people I can rely on. You don't trust anyone," he said quietly.
"I trust you Jase," she answered. "I just don't trust my own judgment anymore," she said into her lap. She felt the truck stop and heard Jase come around the side and carry her into the house where everyone was hovering.
He set her into her chair and kissed her forehead. "Let me know when you do trust yourself okay." When he left she felt the tears well and she held them until she was left alone in her bed then she let them fall.
