Everything was easy as before. I would go to the usual restaurant. Right by the restaurant, there was a bench. And on the bench, there would be a book with a piece of paper with the information of the person that I have to kill. I read the paper, and saw that I have to kill a guy in an alley, when his friends disappear. The description of him was on the paper and I nodded to myself knowing that it was going to be easy.

Going to the designated place, with my black suit, and blue tooth, I walk on the roof and see at least 5 guys messing around. Since it was dark, I couldn't really see, but I knew which one I had to kill. I had to wait a couple of hours, and then I would strike. One by one, his friends started to leave. There were two guys left.

I overheard their conversation. "I'm about to leave. I'm tired."

"Fine whatever. I'll see you soon."

When the last guy left, I then got into place to kill him. Before I even remove my knife from my pocket, he turned around and faced me. I then got a good look of his face.

I froze, unable to move or do anything. The moonlight shined into his emerald eyes, and I saw his curly hair. Slightly having a bang. What the in hell? How am I supposed to kill him if he looks like that?

I tried to react, but he smiled. "What are you doing here?"

I continued to stare, and not say anything.

"Are you gonna keep staring at me?" He smirked.

My thoughts were all over the place. What the fuck should I do? I know I'm supposed to kill him, but I couldn't.

"Uh..."

He stifled back a laughter, which slightly irritated me.

Great. He's laughing. That's exactly what I need right now.

I take a deep breath, and start talking. "Hello, I was lost."

I mentally slapped myself for that. You dumbass. This isn't a meeting, you're supposed to kill him!

"Can you tell me your name?" He asked, showing a sweet smile.

"Um... Ashley?"

"Did you just say your name like it was a question?" He asked, looking at me like I was some kind of alien.

"No, I'm just as confused as you actually."

"Why would you be confused about your own name? God, you're pretty weird."

"Weird? Are you kidding me?" I asked.

"No." He snickered again.

I then came back to my senses. "I have to go."

"Come on, can't you tell me your real name?"

"Are you gonna tell me yours?" I asked sharply.

"Harry."

Harry... Nice name. I thought.

"Now can you tell me?"

"Emerald..." I muttered before disappearing into the darkness.

I kept walking away from the situation. "Great. I let him escape because of my own feelings."

My phone rang. I knew it was my boss. "Hello?"

"You're taking longer than usual."

"Sorry. The target escaped, and I couldn't find him. I looked everywhere." I immediately lie.

"He escaped?! That boy..." He didn't sound too happy about it. "Well, Emerald, this means you failed."

"I know." I replied sadly.

"Try it again two nights from now. Next time, you better catch him."

"Okay. It'll be done."

Hanging up the phone, I look at the moon. Get your shit together, Emerald. Remember that this is for your family.

I continue walking along the night streets remembering Harry. I remember what happened the last time I refused to kill someone.

I was 17, and I was pretty sick of ending people's lives. My boss found out that I let the girl I was supposed to kill go free. One day, he called me over and had me meet him somewhere. He had the girl tied up to a chair. He told me to watch everything that was about to happen.

He killed her.

He didn't even make it quick. He made her death last so long. All I could remember was her tears, and her screams. I tried desperately to get him to leave her alone, but he didn't seem to care not even in the slightest. There was blood. There was so much blood. You never know how much blood is in somebody until you kill them. I couldn't stop crying as I watched him do the horrendous deed. It seemed like eternity until he finally finished. He told me not to EVER refuse to kill again, or else my family was next.

At that point, I knew that this hell that I call my job, was the only thing that could save my family.

They're the only thing I have left.
