She stood there, with sunset perfectly placed. Rose turned around, just to catch Marceline staring dreamily, at Rose.
"What's wrong, Marcey?" Rose walked toward her and sat on the hood of the car, next to Marceline.
"Oh, um, nothing. I'm ok. Really." Marceline said, hoping Rose can't see past her lies. She held her jacket in her arms, then realized that Rose was shivering.
"Here, I think you need this way more than I do" Marceline put the jacket around her, thinking " This is so cliche, I feel like I'm in one of those old romance novels."
"Thanks." She pulled it around herself, and scooted a little closer to Marceline, and laid her head on her shoulders. " You know Marcey, I'm glad I came, camping, it actually isn't too bad," She smiled. "Except for all the bugs" She maked a disgusted face, then laughed. "I'm glad I am here, with you."
"I'm glad too." Marceline smiled, and put her arms around  Rose, holding her close to her heart. "You know Rose, I have something I need to say." Rose sees she was serious, so she got up.
"Anything..." Rose said, cautiously.
" I think that, you and I, we are well. Let me start over... I think you and I are" Before Marceline could finish her sentence, Rose leaned over and kissed her.
"Is that what you were trying to say?" She grined an evil grin. Marceline was so stunned, she couldn't speak. She was just staring blankly into the woods, across the way. Then looked to Rose.
"Yes" Rose leaned into give Marceline a hug.
Marceline looked beyond Rose and saw something, a figure, dark and ominous. She pointed to the shadow like person. "Look! Someone is coming onto our camp site." She turned to the figure. "Hey! You! Why are you on our site?!" Marceline stood up and started to walk over to the mysterious person, just to feel a slight tug on her arm by Rose.
"Let me take care of this," Rose steped up to the figure and held her hands out, like a showing of peace. "Will you please make your way off of our land, kind sir?" Marcey started to daydream about Roses angelic voice, and about waking up to it every morning, right beside her.
Her thoughts were interrupted by a screech. "THAT'S ROSE!" She thought.
         She was correct
Rose was being attacked by the mystery person, he was on top of her, snarling and growling. "ROSE!" She screamed as she ran toward the damsel in distress.
Marceline grabbed the person and pulled it off of her love, and pinned it down. She turned around to check on Rose.
"Are you ok?" She asked the shaking Rose
              "I...I think so" Rose mumbled.
" What the hell do you think you're doing?!" She punched the thing in the face, and it's jaw fell off. Clean off.
"Wha...what in the world?" Marceline stuttered. She looked to the person and for once focuses on its face.
It wasn't a human face, or at least any more. It is completely mutilated and torn apart, pieces of dark green and brown flesh falling off. The eyes were, well, dead. One was rolled all the way to the back of the head, and the other was sunken into this things skull. It groaned and growled at Marceline, trying to snap at her without its jaw.
           "It's...dead." Marceline stated.
"No... It's tried to attack me, it moved, it made noise. How can it be dead?" Rose said letting a little confusion leek into her response.
"Look at it, and tell me it's alive." Marceline challenged. Rose slowly moved closer to the snarling creature, its hands still trying to reach up at Marcey. Rose looked down at its face, and shuddered.
"See? Dead." Marceline said very matter of factly.
"Step back, Rose." She commanded. Rose listened and stepped back behind a tree. Marceline slowly got up, feet still on its arms. And then moved her feet. The creature regained its stance and started moving back towards Marcey.
Marceline grabs her large pocket knife and cuts it in half and she kept slicing it into more pieces and stabbing, until it's only the torso up. The red hot rage shown in her face was so intense that Rose ran over.
"Are you ok?! Marcey! Stop!" Rose grabbed Marceline's hand and looked into her eyes.
"I'm ok, aren't I? I'm alive, right? It's all ok." Rose hugged Marcey then felt a tug at her foot, then glances down. To her dismay she found the top half of the dead thing grabbing her leg.
"It didn't die?! Quick Marcey, kill it!" Rose ducked behind Marceline, who covered her and took out her gun, and shot it in the heart, only to watch it slow, then continue on its mission.
"What?!" Marceline then shot it in the head, and it stopped all together.
"I.. I don't understand, when you cut it, it didn't affect it, when you shot it, it didn't affect it. But when shot in the head, boom, done."  Rose says, stepping out from behind Marcey.
" I don't either, but we need to leave. Pack up. Then we head back home." Rose nodded, and they begin to pack. Grabbing everything from food to blankets, they put it all in the car, and backed out. Rose looked through the window and started to hyperventilate.
"Rose! What's wrong?!" Marceline cut the engine and looked toward Rose's view.
"There are more, a lot more." Rose said, her words stumbling out of her mouth like drunks.
Marceline looked, and saw that Rose was right. There were what looked to be hundreds and hundreds of those things, all slumped over or crawling like a child. Some didn't have a whole body, there were many with missing limbs, and some with missing torsos. They heard a scream from the opposite side and looked, and saw more. All around them. They were everywhere.
"We need to help!" Rose said, so fast Marceline almost couldn't understand her. Rose looked around anxiously to find the person that screamed, when they heard.
" HELP! PLEASE! SOMEONE HELP ME!" It was a guy. He sounded close. Marceline turned the car and started driving, out to where the scream was. As she drew closer and closer to the things, they saw him, and called out to him.
"Are you ok? What's wrong?" She waites and then lost sight of him in the mob of the monsters.
"We have to help him!" Rose yelled as she started to get out of the car. "No, I don't want you getting hurt. I'll go, but if I can't find him, we are leaving. Period. I'm not letting you die because of a stranger." Rose noded. Marceline stepped out of the car and looked at Rose.
"If I don't come back in twenty minutes. Leave." Marceline said, her face stern.
"No. I won't leave you behind." Rose shaked. Shaking her head. Tears running down her face.
"Yes you will. If you care about me even a little. You will." Rose continued to shake her head then looked up to Marcey.
"Be safe." She kissed her lightly.
" I will." Marceline closed the car door and walked toward where the man was only moments ago. She walked closer, and closer to the creatures, who were ignoring her completely. Her hand was on her gun, just in case. As she looked at what the attackers were so  focused on, she was almost sick. She was horrified. It was the man, but he is dead. not like them, but.. Dead. The things were tearing him apart, his whole torso was open. And these disgusting monsters were... eating him. Snarling and grunting.
Marceline stared in horror, then slowly walked back to the car and opened the creaky door to the old Chevy, and got in. Rose basically attacked her, hugging her and crying.
"It was almost twenty minutes, I thought I would have to leave you!" Rose clung to Marceline, then realized her expression. "What happened out there?" She asked cautiously.
"Let's.... Let's just get away from here. Far away."

"Rose?" Marceline said, taking her eyes off the road for a moment to gently poke the sleeping beauty. Rose looked up. "Yes, Marcey?" She looked as if she was in a deep slumber. 'Wow, even after all of this, she still looks so... at peace.' Marceline thought. "What you did... what we did... what did that mean?" She looked away, ashamed of asking, and focused back on the long, empty road.
There was silence. "What did it mean to you?" Rose asked, so quietly Marceline almost couldn't hear her. Marceline sat back in thought. "Well, I mean, did it mean that you feel the same as I do? I honestly was so shocked, I..I couldn't really comprehend what was happening." There was flush of heat crawling up her neck, then pouring out into her face, so she looked like a fresh-picked tomato. She heard no response, so she looked back over to see Rose asleep. 'She must be really tired. I guess we'll talk about this later.' Marceline thought.
Rose looked very carefully over her shoulder, glad that Marceline didn't notice she was actually awake. She felt so wrong, to be feeling the way she did. Wanting someone so bad, let alone another girl. Let alone Marcey.
'Why do I feel so, alone, without her. Knowing she isn't mine kills me inside, but I don't understand why I feel so strongly about a girl. I am not in love with a girl. That's not how it works. So why do I feel so needing of her. All my feelings are just so, codependent, on her. I love her. But I don't know how to say it. I don't know how to convince her that it is the truth, I don't even know how to convince myself.' They soon found a cave and park inside after a thourough look for the creatures.

Marceline woke up to a fit of laughter, and looked over to Rose, and saw that she was laughing like a mad-woman. "Rose?" She asked, her sleepy eyes adjusting to the light, seeing a blurry Rose, turning into a clear depiction of a woman from an insane asylum.  "Rose?" She turned to her, with a worried look plastered on her face.
Rose turned to face Marceline and smiled a smile as terrifying as a horror movie.
"What's wrong with you?" She asked, now shaking. The only response she got was the face of insanity. As Marceline tried to comprehend this madness, she felt a weak tug, and looked over, thinking maybe her love was back to her original self. She had thought wrong.
Rose no longer looked human. 'No.... No! Not to Rose!' She realized that the once living, breathing beauty has turned into a flesh craving savage. Dead. Gone. Forever.
