The next day at work was a blur. Lars came in late, as usual. His eyes were puffy and red, and his lips chapped and dry. When Steven came in Lars ignored him. But Steven could notice if a fly was feeling upset.

"Laaaarrsss, my stars. What must be wrong with thou?" Steven said in a singsong voice. When Lars didn't answer, Steven realized this was serious, and no rhyming would help this rainy day. "Lars, is there something wrong?" Steven hopped over the counter, somewhere he'd never ventured before, and hugged Lars' waist, or at least until lars pushed him off, heading to the breakroom.

"Cover for me, Sadie?"

"Uh, yea, sure." Steven looked back at Sadie with puppy eyes.

"What's going on with Lars?" he whispered, holding Sadie's hand.

"He's just having a bad day, Steven. He'll be better tomorrow, I promise." Sadie half-heartedly smiled at him. Steven smiled back, and left without any donuts.

Lars came out with his usual smirk, and a freshly washed face. He towered over her as usual, even though she didn't usually mind it, he thought it irked her. He leaned back onto a chair, putting his feet up on the counter. Now, THAT was a bit more frustrating.

"Jeez, Lars, you have so much room behind the counter. Can you put your feet ANYWHERE else." she knew that was a mistake as soon as it left her mouth and Lars' face lit up with a grin. His feet crashed down on her head, not wanting to hurt her but ending up hitting the bridge of her nose.

"Aw, crap! Now it's bleeding." She rubbed her nose, giving Lars a death glare.

"My own personal footrest!" He threw his hands in the air. That breakroom must be magic, there was no way he could transition from a lump of sadness to this sarcastic a-hole. But Sadie knew that was just Lars. Sadie rolled her eyes and went back to work, eyeing the fact it was almost closing time.

"Yo Sadie! I was wondering if ya wanted to come play video games with me later?" Lars grinned.

"Uh, yea-uh-yea, sure." Sadie turned around, blushing a bit. Lars showed no signs of awkwardness, and talked to her as if he'd known her since birth. I mean, they had played together as kids, but it wasn't exactly something that lasted very long. Lars had started playing with Ronaldo, got a snake, and y'know, stopped considering her a friend.

"The new World of Guns literally JUST came out and I preordered it on amazon so it should have come today."

Sadie didn't reply, just gave him a thumbs up, too flustered to speak, and continued to mop up today's concoction of soggy donut bits, melted ice cream, and soda that lost its fizz.
