Ripcurrent was shaking as he entered Queen Anenome's throne room. He was afraid of her wrath when she found out they had failed. Even when it was her own daughter. He bowed low before her, talons crossed, as a sign of respect.
"Queen, we bring news."
"What is it? Are either of you hurt? What have I done , sending two dragonets out alone? Tsunami said she'd kill me if you weren't all right!"
"We are unharmed, but... We failed. Avalanche... Her fate still hangs in balance. I am sorry."
"Are you mad?" Corals voice broke timidly through the silence.
"Of course I'm not mad sweetheart. I'm not my mother." For a moment she seemed lost in her memories.* "I'm not my mother. I wouldn't hurt someone because they failed." She shook herself back into reality.
"Coral, we need to speak. Ripcurrent, you should go greet your siblings. They have news. Tsunami and Riptide are... Away." Recognizing his dismissal, he bowed and left, making eye contact with Coral.
When he reached the beach where his siblings played, he saw them huddled in a tight group, and he saw terror in their eyes. He did a quick count and realized... Not all of his siblings were there. He was torn from his thoughts as Clownfish cried out to him.
"We were so worried! We thought the Skywings were going to kill you! Mom and Dad were in a panic- we all were."
"Really." He said quietly. "You were worried about me."
" We were so afraid... We thought we would lose two of us." He didn't realize the meaning of this as he started to rant, screaming so loud they could have heard him at the other end of the Bay of a Thousand Scales.
"YOU? You were worried about ME! WHO EVER CARED ABOUT ME? WHO EVER ASKED ME TO PLAY WITH THEN? Not you. Never you. You never cared. It was only Seastar who ever gave a... Wait, where's Seastar?" His siblings didn't reply.
"WHERES SEASTAR??"
"Ripcurrent, that's where our parents went. To find her. Seastar is missing, Ripcurrent. She's gone.
