The necklace felt cold in his talons. He hardly noticed the Skywing guards chaining him and dragging him off as he watched Coral weeping over the body of Ash. A thousand questions circled through his brain

How do you know him?
Can't you see he loves you, Coral?

His heart was breaking as he watched them drag her away, and she howled and roared as the body of Ash got farther from them. Distantly he realized they were not being pulled towards their rich spires, but this didn't bother him. Their eyes met. Hers were bright and terrified, his green and confused. But he didn't realize just how bad the situation was until he was forcefully thrown in to Queen Rubys throne room, where her golden eyes, cold and clear, stared into his

"Why are you here? You have interrupted the peace of my kingdom. One of my subjects is dead because of you." Coral had not come out of her stupor, so Ripcurrent bowed low and said

"Your majesty, we ask for your peace, and to negotiate-"

"My peace? Right now all you have is my blame. It's a wonder I don't kill you both to replace the subject I lost. But... You are just dragonets. I will not kill you... But if you ever set foot in my kingdom again, you are as good as dead. Go."

"Your majesty-"

"GO!!"

He stumbled out of the throne room, out of the palace, pulling Coral with him. It was over. They had failed.

Corals POV

She could hardly breathe. They were standing on the outskirts of the Sky Kingdom, and all she could see was Ash's body in her mind.

Her lover
Her friend
Her family, practically.
Gone.

Ripcurrent was standing in front of her, staring plaintively.

"Who was he, Coral? Did you love him?"

"Ripcurrent, I-"

"Did you ever love me, Coral? I thought you did. Three moons, I was stupid. It was always him, wasn't it? What was I to you? I don't know what you are to me anymore, Coral. I saw he way you look at him."

"He's my friend"

"He sure looked more than a-"

"That's all he is!"

"How do you know him?" Finally, Ripcurrent fell silent.

"It was right after the war. My mom had just become queen, and she wanted to make peace with Queen Ruby. I met him while I was waiting outside the throne room, and when the two queens came out, they decided our friendship would seal theirs. I saw him all the time after that, though I doubt Queen Ruby remembers me. He ways made sure he was on guard duty when

When we were 3 or 4, kissed me. He told me he loved me, and I said I loved him back. But I don't anymore, I swear." Tears were in her eyes.

"When were you going to tell me about him?" Ripcurrents face was cold.

"I don't know."

"I... I think I need to leave."

"Please-"
"No!"

"I thought you said you loved me!" Coral cried.

"I thought you did, too." And then he was gone, the last trace of his blue tail disappearing into the snow.
