Chapter 14
“You’re not Brick,” said Fiona as she looked at this guy. He was muscular, but less of a brick house than Brick. He looked like a mix of Tom Cruise’s Top Gun with a similar face to Brick, but with a lighter shade of brown eyes.
“I would hope not. It is not as fun as being me.” He winked.
“Aren’t you a charmer?” she said with a smirk. At the moment, the man was pulled back and out of the way by Brick. An irritated Brick looked down at her.
“Didn’t I tell you to call me every single time?” he said with a rumble in his voice.
“Well, I didn’t walk alone.” Fiona stepped out of the way and motioned toward Alice.
In his anger, Brick had barely noticed the young woman behind Fiona. It didn’t help that she kept her eyes on the ground.
“This is my new personal assistant, Alice. Alice, meet another part of my small entourage. This is my bodyguard, Brick. I have a little problem with overzealous fans.”
Alice nodded at the ground. Chris slipped under Brick’s arm as he tried to block the door.
“What about me?” Chris whined as he stood up and leaned against the hallway wall.
Brick groaned as he pointed to his brother.
“This is my brother Christopher Carter. Christopher, this is my client Fiona Delafield and her personal assistant Alice.”
Chris smiled that smile again as he moved closer to Fiona. Without thinking about it, Brick grabbed Chris’s shirt and pulled him back. He held on tight as Chris struggled. When he noticed that Alice was trying to hide a shy smile, Chris began to struggle more.
Brick and Fiona held back an eye roll. What a flirt. Then, Fiona remembered another flirt that she didn’t want to deal with. She grimaced as she remembered just how much she disliked him.
“I have an audition. We need to leave soon.” Brick held back the need to ask what was wrong. He had asked for a strictly professional relationship. He was going to stick to it. Brick pulled one final time and put Chris firmly behind him.
“One minute.” Brick closed the door and turned on Chris.
“Stay.” Chris lifted his eyebrow in disbelief.
“You can’t be serious. I am not a child. I want to come.”
“No, this is my case. My job. Go back to yours.”
“I have a leave for the next two weeks. Totally open.”
“Shouldn’t you be at some club chasing after some girls?”
“Why would I do that when I can help my brother? C’mon. It is perfect. Two bodyguards for the price of one.”
“You are not a bodyguard. You are a pilot. Go fly some plane or something.”
“Wait a minute. He may have a point. Have you made any headway in my case?”
Brick turned to the voice. There stood Fiona and her little follower.
“Weren’t you supposed to wait? Why won’t anyone listen to me?”
“Well, have you found anything?” repeated Fiona, ignoring his outburst. She put her hands on her hips and stared him down.
“Not exactly, but I . . .”
“Why not let him tag along? Two heads are better than one, right? Chris, join along.”
